About the model
Minotti Hamilton – linear seating system with down cushions
Minotti describes the Hamilton as a seating system with a linear design, compact volumes and a metal base just above the floor. Rodolfo Dordoni designed it in 2004, and the family has been extended continuously since then. It includes sofas, corners, chaise longues, benches and a daybed. The seat and back cushions are filled with chambered goose down, with a core of high-resilience polyurethane inside. The structure underneath is made of solid wood, and elastic straps give the seat its spring. Fabric covers can be removed completely.
Hamilton two-seater with chaise longue in beige fabric
This Hamilton is a two-seater with a chaise longue, upholstered in beige fabric. There is room for two people, and on the chaise longue you can stretch out your legs. This makes it good for reading or a film night. Beige looks light and calm and can be combined with wood, rattan, linen and shades of grey. The sofa suits a living room where people both sit and lie down.
Seating comfort and space
The Hamilton gives you a soft seat: the down gives way, while a polyurethane core provides support. The seat height of 39 cm is below the usual 42 to 45 cm. This feels laid-back and suits lying on the chaise longue. In terms of width, the sofa needs around 2.05 m of wall space. Leave around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of the sofa so that you can get past comfortably.
Elements and additions
The Hamilton family includes chaise longues in several formats, as well as sofas, corners, a bench and the daybed of the Modulo line. According to Minotti, there were 53 elements in total in 2019. Minotti still offers the Hamilton. Elements, down-filled scatter cushions and a headrest can be added through retailers. The covers of the scatter cushions are removable too.
Caring for the fabric cover
The beige fabric cover can be removed completely; to do so, the surrounding base is taken off. Clean it according to the fabric’s care instructions. For everyday care, regular vacuuming with the upholstery nozzle is enough. Dab fresh stains with a light-coloured, slightly damp cloth. Feet often rest on the chaise longue; a throw there protects the light fabric.
Why buy a pre-owned Minotti Hamilton?
The Minotti family has run the company in Meda since it was founded in 1948, now in its third generation. The Hamilton has been in the range since 2004. There is a practical argument for a pre-owned Hamilton in fabric: the cover can be removed and cleaned. You can bring the down cushions back into shape by plumping them up. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Which chaise longues are available for the Minotti Hamilton?
Minotti offers chaise longues in the Hamilton and Hamilton Sofà lines. On the Hamilton, it measures around 135 × 160 cm; on the Hamilton Sofà, 160 × 160 or 160 × 180 cm. They can be joined with sofa elements to form combinations with room for sitting and lying side by side.
What is it like to sit on the Minotti Hamilton?
Fairly soft. The seat and back cushions are filled with chambered goose down, which gives way as you sit down. A core of high-resilience polyurethane gives the cushions their shape, and elastic straps with a high rubber content give the seat its spring.
How do you remove the Hamilton’s fabric cover?
According to Minotti, the fabric cover is fully removable once the surrounding base has been taken off. You can then clean it according to the care instructions for the fabric in question, or have it cleaned. Leather covers on the Hamilton, by contrast, are fixed.
How do you care for the Hamilton’s down cushions?
Down gives way when you sit and shifts within its chambers over time. That is why you should shake and plump up the seat and back cushions regularly. The filling then spreads out evenly again, and the cushions keep their shape.
How do the Hamilton, Hamilton Sofà and Hamilton Modulo differ?
Mainly in the armrests and backrests. On the Hamilton, the armrest is vertical and the back is inclined. On the Hamilton Sofà, both are vertical, which looks more formal. On the Hamilton Modulo, both are inclined; according to Minotti, this creates a soft, tub-like shape.
What is the bench in the Hamilton range for?
The Hamilton bench measures 104 × 104 cm and is 40 cm high, the same height as the seat. In front of the sofa, it serves as a footrest or an extra seat. With a tray on top, it becomes a place for books and drinks.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Cologne. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Minotti was founded in 1948 by Alberto Minotti in Meda, in the Brianza area, initially as a small workshop; from the 1960s the business grew larger and more industrial. In 1991 his sons Renato and Roberto Minotti took over the family company. From 1998 until his death in 2023, the Milan architect Rodolfo Dordoni was art director and shaped the collections, for example with the Hamilton seating system of 2004 and its low base. The furniture is made with modern technology and finished by hand.
