About the model
Minotti Hamilton – seating system with many elements
Hamilton is the name of the seating system that Rodolfo Dordoni developed for Minotti in 2004. According to Minotti, in 2019 its three lines comprised 53 elements for straight sofas and large corner combinations. The volumes are compact and the lines straight. The structure is made of solid wood. A typical feature is a metal frame with an oval profile, black nickel-plated or bronze-coloured. If you prefer not to have it, you can choose ash feet instead. The seat and back cushions are padded with chambered goose down.
Hamilton corner sofa in beige fabric
This Hamilton is a corner sofa with a beige fabric cover and room for five people. Seen from the front, the corner is on the right. The sofa consists of two parts. The light beige underlines the low line and goes well with wood, stone and linen. As a large sofa for family and guests, it suits a spacious living room or an open-plan living area.
Seating comfort and space
The Hamilton gives you a soft seat, because the cushions are filled with down. A core of high-resilience polyurethane and elastic straps give the seat support. At 39 cm, the seat height is lower than the usual 42 to 45 cm, which gives a laid-back feel. The corner sofa measures around 3.2 × 3.1 m, so it fits into a corner of a room with two long walls. Leave around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of both sides.
Elements and additions
This corner sofa is made up of two Hamilton elements. For this, Minotti offers end elements, centre elements, the “Square” corner and chaise longues in many widths. With further elements, the combination can be lengthened or reconfigured. A bench at seat height serves as a place to put things or as a footrest. Elements, down cushions and the headrest are still available through Minotti retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
Beige fabric shows dust and stains more quickly than darker shades. That is why you should vacuum the cover regularly with the upholstery nozzle. Dab stains straight away with a slightly damp, light-coloured cloth, without rubbing. For thorough cleaning, the fabric cover can be removed completely; to do so, the base is taken off. Follow the care instructions for the fabric when you do this.
Why buy a pre-owned Minotti Hamilton?
Since 2004, the Hamilton has been part of the collection of Minotti, a family business from Meda. Alberto Minotti founded the company in 1948, and today it is run by the third generation. The main argument for a pre-owned corner sofa in fabric is the removable cover. Added to this is the modular system, which Minotti still has in its range today. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Hamilton corner sofa be reconfigured later?
The Hamilton is a modular system that Minotti still offers. With further end or centre elements, a chaise longue or the bench, the combination can be extended through retailers. With fabric, a new cover may differ in shade from the existing one.
How do the Hamilton, Hamilton Sofà and Hamilton Modulo differ?
Mainly in the armrests and backrests. On the Hamilton, the armrest is vertical and the back is inclined. On the Hamilton Sofà, both are vertical, which looks more formal. On the Hamilton Modulo, both are inclined; according to Minotti, this creates a soft, tub-like shape.
How do you care for the Hamilton’s down cushions?
Down gives way when you sit and shifts within its chambers over time. That is why you should shake and plump up the seat and back cushions regularly. The filling then spreads out evenly again, and the cushions keep their shape.
How do you remove the Hamilton’s fabric cover?
According to Minotti, the fabric cover is fully removable once the surrounding base has been taken off. You can then clean it according to the care instructions for the fabric in question, or have it cleaned. Leather covers on the Hamilton, by contrast, are fixed.
What accessories are available for the Hamilton?
Minotti offers scatter cushions in three versions: Hamilton and Cross in 40 × 40 and 60 × 60 cm, and Milano in 46 × 46 cm. All are filled entirely with chambered goose down and have removable covers. There is also a headrest measuring 60 × 79 cm.
How can you recognise a Minotti Hamilton?
By its base: a metal frame with an oval 40 × 20 mm profile runs around the elements. This makes the sofa seem to rest just above the floor. The frame is black nickel-plated or lacquered in bronze. This detail became a Minotti trademark.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Cologne. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Minotti was founded in 1948 by Alberto Minotti in Meda, in the Brianza area, initially as a small workshop; from the 1960s the business grew larger and more industrial. In 1991 his sons Renato and Roberto Minotti took over the family company. From 1998 until his death in 2023, the Milan architect Rodolfo Dordoni was art director and shaped the collections, for example with the Hamilton seating system of 2004 and its low base. The furniture is made with modern technology and finished by hand.
