About the model
Minotti Hamilton – seating system in three lines
The Hamilton is a seating system that Rodolfo Dordoni designed for Minotti in 2004. There are three lines, each with its own character. On the Hamilton, the armrest is vertical and the back is inclined. Hamilton Sofà has vertical armrests and backrests, which makes it look more formal. On Hamilton Modulo, both are inclined; according to Minotti, this creates a soft, tub-like shape. The distinguishing feature of all three lines is the metal frame just above the floor. The cushions are filled with chambered goose down.
Hamilton four-seater in grey fabric
This Hamilton is a four-seater with a grey fabric cover. It consists of three parts that together form a long, straight seat. This makes it suitable for a large living room, an open-plan living area or a reception room. Despite its length, the low shape gives the sofa a calm look. Add an armchair or the Hamilton bench and you have a generous seating group.
Seating comfort and space
On the Hamilton, you sit softly and in a rather laid-back way. Goose down gives way, while an elastic polyurethane core keeps the cushions in shape. The seat height of 40 cm is slightly below the usual 42 to 45 cm. The sofa is around 3.65 m long and 1.05 m deep. It therefore needs a long wall or an open space. Leave around 60 to 80 cm clear in front of the sofa.
Elements and additions
The four-seater is made up of three elements. The Hamilton range includes centre elements from 82 to 157 cm and end elements from 104 to 214 cm wide. These allow a combination to be lengthened or extended into a corner. As accessories, Minotti offers down cushions and a headrest. The Hamilton is still in the range and can be added to through authorised Minotti retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
Grey fabric covers on the Hamilton can be removed completely once the base has been taken off. This makes thorough cleaning according to the fabric’s instructions easier. Vacuum the cover regularly for everyday care. Soak up spills immediately with an absorbent cloth and then dab, without rubbing. Plump up the down cushions regularly so that they keep their shape.
Why buy a pre-owned Minotti Hamilton?
Minotti was founded in Meda in 1948; Rodolfo Dordoni shaped its collections as art director from 1998 to 2023. The Hamilton has been part of the range since 2004 and, according to Minotti, is constantly being developed further. A pre-owned piece is therefore not a discontinued model. The solid wood structure, down cushions and removable covers point to a long service life. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How long has the Hamilton been around?
Rodolfo Dordoni designed the Hamilton in 2004. Minotti calls it a worldwide success and has extended the family again and again since then. According to Minotti, in 2019 the family comprised 53 elements across the three lines Hamilton, Hamilton Sofà and Hamilton Modulo.
What is it like to sit on the Minotti Hamilton?
Fairly soft. The seat and back cushions are filled with chambered goose down, which gives way as you sit down. A core of high-resilience polyurethane gives the cushions their shape, and elastic straps with a high rubber content give the seat its spring.
How do you remove the Hamilton’s fabric cover?
According to Minotti, the fabric cover is fully removable once the surrounding base has been taken off. You can then clean it according to the care instructions for the fabric in question, or have it cleaned. Leather covers on the Hamilton, by contrast, are fixed.
Is the Hamilton also available without the metal frame?
Yes. Instead of the surrounding frame, there is a version with feet in open-pore ash, stained mocha. Minotti describes it as a more discreet, simpler solution that keeps the seating comfort of the Hamilton.
Can the Hamilton be extended later?
Yes. The Hamilton is a modular system that Minotti still offers. Centre and end elements, corners or a chaise longue can be added through retailers. With fabric, bear in mind that a new cover may differ in shade from the existing one.
What accessories are available for the Hamilton?
Minotti offers scatter cushions in three versions: Hamilton and Cross in 40 × 40 and 60 × 60 cm, and Milano in 46 × 46 cm. All are filled entirely with chambered goose down and have removable covers. There is also a headrest measuring 60 × 79 cm.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Minotti was founded in 1948 by Alberto Minotti in Meda, in the Brianza area, initially as a small workshop; from the 1960s the business grew larger and more industrial. In 1991 his sons Renato and Roberto Minotti took over the family company. From 1998 until his death in 2023, the Milan architect Rodolfo Dordoni was art director and shaped the collections, for example with the Hamilton seating system of 2004 and its low base. The furniture is made with modern technology and finished by hand.
