About the model

Minotti Hamilton – sofa with a surrounding metal base

Rodolfo Dordoni was art director at Minotti from 1998 to 2023 and designed the Hamilton in 2004. Today Minotti speaks of a worldwide success. The structure is made of solid wood, padded with high-resilience polyurethane foam of varying densities. Elastic straps with a high rubber content give the seat its spring. The cushions have a polyurethane core surrounded by chambered goose down. A metal base with an oval profile runs beneath the sofa. It is black nickel-plated or lacquered in bronze.

Hamilton two-seater in brown leather – floor model

This Hamilton is a two-seater with a brown leather cover. It was on display in a showroom and was never used in a home. The sofa is straight and built in one piece. The warm brown and the low shape go well with wood, wool and linen. It suits a living room or a study, and also works opposite a larger sofa.

Seating comfort and space

Despite the leather cover, the Hamilton gives you a soft seat, because the leather cushions are filled with down too. The straps and foam core provide support. The seat height is around 40 cm, slightly below the usual 42 to 45 cm. The sofa is 1.04 m deep and offers plenty of room to lean back. It needs around 2.1 m along the wall. Allow around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it.

Elements and additions

Minotti offers the 208 cm wide two-seater as a ready-made sofa in the Hamilton line. There are also sofas from 180 to 314 cm, as well as elements for corner combinations, chaise longues and a bench. Down-filled scatter cushions and a headrest let you adjust the comfort. The Hamilton is still in the range and can be added to through Minotti retailers.

Caring for the leather cover

The Hamilton’s leather cover is fixed and cannot be removed. You therefore care for it directly on the sofa. Remove dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Dab stains straight away with a slightly damp cloth. Once or twice a year, treat the leather with a suitable care product. Direct sunlight and nearby radiators dry leather out.

Why a Minotti Hamilton floor model?

Minotti is based in Meda and has been family-owned since 1948, now in its third generation. In 2022, the brand was registered in Italy as a historic brand of national interest. This Hamilton was a floor model and was never used in a home. Beneath the leather are solid wood, elastic straps and down cushions. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Hamilton’s leather cover be removed?

No. On the Hamilton, Minotti fits leather covers permanently; only fabric covers are removable. A leather cover is therefore cared for directly on the sofa. Test any care product on an inconspicuous spot first, before applying it to larger areas.

What is it like to sit on the Minotti Hamilton?

Fairly soft. The seat and back cushions are filled with chambered goose down, which gives way as you sit down. A core of high-resilience polyurethane gives the cushions their shape, and elastic straps with a high rubber content give the seat its spring.

How do you care for the Hamilton’s down cushions?

Down gives way when you sit and shifts within its chambers over time. That is why you should shake and plump up the seat and back cushions regularly. The filling then spreads out evenly again, and the cushions keep their shape.

Is the Hamilton also available without the metal frame?

Yes. Instead of the surrounding frame, there is a version with feet in open-pore ash, stained mocha. Minotti describes it as a more discreet, simpler solution that keeps the seating comfort of the Hamilton.

What accessories are available for the Hamilton?

Minotti offers scatter cushions in three versions: Hamilton and Cross in 40 × 40 and 60 × 60 cm, and Milano in 46 × 46 cm. All are filled entirely with chambered goose down and have removable covers. There is also a headrest measuring 60 × 79 cm.

How long has the Hamilton been around?

Rodolfo Dordoni designed the Hamilton in 2004. Minotti calls it a worldwide success and has extended the family again and again since then. According to Minotti, in 2019 the family comprised 53 elements across the three lines Hamilton, Hamilton Sofà and Hamilton Modulo.

Can I see the piece before buying?

Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.

About the brand

All Minotti in stock

Minotti was founded in 1948 by Alberto Minotti in Meda, in the Brianza area, initially as a small workshop; from the 1960s the business grew larger and more industrial. In 1991 his sons Renato and Roberto Minotti took over the family company. From 1998 until his death in 2023, the Milan architect Rodolfo Dordoni was art director and shaped the collections, for example with the Hamilton seating system of 2004 and its low base. The furniture is made with modern technology and finished by hand.
