About the model
Flexform Lifewood – a two-seater with a Love Chair
Lifewood is a Flexform sofa model that the manufacturer presented at the Milan furniture fair in 2005. At the time, the trade press described the contrast between generously shaped cushions and a slim wooden frame. A sister model called Life has the same construction but stands on a base that sits flush with the floor. Flexform comes from Meda in Brianza; the family business's story began in 1959 in a small craft workshop.
Lifewood two-seater in grey fabric with Love Chair
This set consists of a Lifewood two-seater and a Love Chair, both with grey fabric covers. A Love Chair is an extra-wide armchair with room for two people side by side. Together, the two pieces offer four seats and form a complete seating group. The calm grey links both pieces and goes well with wood, white and strong accent colours. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
With a seat height of 35 cm, you sit much lower than on most sofas – relaxed and lounge-like, though getting up takes a little more effort. The generous cushions invite you to lean back. The sofa is 2.4 m wide and one metre deep, and the Love Chair is just under one and a half metres wide with the same depth. As a rule of thumb, leave 60 to 80 cm clear in front of the seats, and a passage between the sofa and the Love Chair.
Elements and additions
The set can be arranged freely: at right angles as a closed seating group, facing each other for conversation, or split between two rooms. The Love Chair works well as a reading spot by the window, for example. A low coffee table in the middle links both pieces. According to Flexform, new covers for existing furniture can be ordered through authorised dealers; if you have the product documents, keep them to hand.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the fabric regularly with a soft upholstery nozzle. Dab stains with a damp, light-coloured cloth from the outside inwards, without rubbing. Plump up the cushions from time to time so that they keep their shape. Direct sunlight can fade fabrics, so do not place the sofa and Love Chair in bright light permanently. Wipe the wooden frame with a dry or barely damp cloth.
Why buy a pre-owned Flexform Lifewood?
Flexform has been working with Antonio Citterio since the 1970s and also develops its own models in its in-house design centre. The family business from Meda is now run by the third generation. With this set, you get two of the company's upholstered pieces in one purchase, matched in fabric and colour. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Love Chair like the one in the Lifewood set?
A Love Chair is an armchair that is much wider than a standard single armchair. Two people can sit in it side by side, and on your own you can lie across it or tuck your legs up.
What is the difference between Lifewood and Life from Flexform?
Flexform presented both models in 2005. According to the trade press, Life is the same sofa as Lifewood but stands on a base that sits flush with the floor. On the Lifewood, by contrast, the slim wooden frame remains visible.
What is it like to sit on the Lifewood?
Low and relaxed: the seat is lower than on most sofas, and the generous cushions invite you to lean back. If you read a lot or watch films, you can settle into a relaxed position; getting up takes a little more effort.
Who is a Love Chair like the Lifewood's suited to?
For anyone who likes to sit close together or enjoys plenty of space on their own. Two people share it like a small sofa, and on your own you can use it sideways for reading. Next to the two-seater, it adds two seats to the group.
Can you get new covers for the Lifewood?
Flexform sells new covers for existing furniture through authorised dealers. Keep the product documents to hand if you have them, and state the model and size of both pieces. The dealer will clarify what is possible for the Lifewood.
Where does the maker of the Lifewood come from?
Flexform comes from Meda in Brianza, north of Milan. Its story began in 1959 with the brothers Romeo, Pietro and Agostino Galimberti in a small craft workshop. Today, the third generation runs the family business.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Flexform was founded in 1959 as a small workshop in Brianza near Milan and is now run by the third generation of the founding Galimberti family. Design and production take place in Meda, with suppliers within a few kilometres. Since the 1970s Antonio Citterio has designed much of the collection, including the Groundpiece of 2001: deep, notably low and with large down cushions. Pieces are made to order, with a wooden frame, elastic webbing tensioned by hand and foam padding of different densities.
