About the model
Brühl Tomo – low armrests and backrests, plenty of flexibility
The Tomo was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl. Brühl describes it as a sofa where people come together: to relax, to talk and to read. Typical of it is the clean form, with armrests and backrests that sit low in the basic position. Infinitely adjustable backrests allow you to sit upright as well as lean back and relax casually. Brühl calls it super comfortable and very versatile, and builds it in two versions, soft and compact.
Tomo corner sofa in grey fabric
This Tomo corner sofa is covered in grey fabric and has a reclining function. Seen from the front, the corner is on the left, and two pieces offer three seats. The understated grey goes well with colourful cushions and light woods, and cushions in yellow or petrol blue add fresh accents. The corner sofa is made for living rooms where people sit together, read and lean back. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
According to specialist retailers, the Tomo has a polyurethane foam core on sinuous springs, and the seat depth is 56 cm. How firmly you sit depends on the version: soft is casually soft, compact pleasantly firm. The seat height of 44 cm is standard. The corner sofa needs around 2.4 m of wall space and just under 1.4 m on the corner side. Depending on the position of the backrests, up to 40 cm of depth is added according to the dimension sheet, and folded-down armrests need around 20 cm on each side.
Functions and additions
This corner sofa has a reclining function. On the Tomo, it is based on the infinitely adjustable backrests, which offer numerous relaxing positions. When raised, the backrests reach a height of up to 107 cm, according to the dimension sheet. If you want to lie down for a moment, fold the armrests down to the side. Brühl offers footrests as an option, and according to Brühl, a footstool from the range adds extra comfort.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the fabric regularly with a soft upholstery nozzle, especially along the seat edges and in the corner. Dab stains immediately with a light-coloured, damp cloth without rubbing. The Tomo’s covers are removable and attached to the body of the sofa with hook-and-loop tape. Depending on the fabric, they are dry-cleaned or washed on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, never tumble-dried.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Tomo?
According to Brühl, the Tomo’s removable covers ensure a long service life. The family business has been manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948 with a high proportion of handwork; each complete cover is sewn there by a single person. Brühl describes the clean-lined Tomo as timeless and adaptable. With a new cover, it can be given a different look later on. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Can you sit on the Tomo’s folded-down armrests?
It is better not to. Brühl sees folded-down armrests as an extension of the lying surface or as a footrest, not as a seat. Regularly sitting on them with your full weight can damage the armrest mechanism over time.
How are Tomo corner sofas put together?
A Tomo corner sofa consists of a longchair or a corner sofa element plus an add-on sofa. The add-on sofa comes as a two-seater or three-seater, and according to the dimension sheet the corner can be on the left or right. This produces combinations from just over 2.3 to more than 3 m wide.
Is the Tomo also available as an armchair or bench?
Yes. The range includes an individual armchair, a footstool and a bench. According to the dimension sheet, the armchair is 84 cm wide and grows to 124 cm with the armrests folded down. This lets you complement a Tomo sofa with matching individual pieces.
What is the table module on the Tomo for?
The table module sits between the longchair and the add-on sofa and creates a surface for putting things down. This makes the corner wider and gives it a more airy look. The dimension sheet provides for this combination in both versions, soft and compact.
Are spare parts available for the Tomo?
Yes. Brühl lists the Tomo under spare parts on its Care & Repair page. In general, Brühl offers replacements for feet, glides and cushion fillings, and the upholstery of every model can be replaced while the frame stays.
Can you change the Tomo’s cover?
Yes. You can order replacement covers for the Tomo through specialist retailers or Brühl’s customer service, also in a different material if you wish, such as fabric instead of leather. According to Brühl, individual parts can also be replaced where a cover consists of several parts.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
