About the model
Brühl Fourtwo – corner sofa with table surface
With the Fourtwo, Brühl puts transformation centre stage. Roland Meyer-Brühl's design combines a longchair with a swivel sofa and offers many possibilities in a limited space: corner sofa, lounging area or double bed. The swivel sofa can be placed either to the right or to the left of the longchair. Switching between them takes just a few easy steps. Brühl develops its own fittings for functions like these. At the final inspection in the workshop, the conversion functions are checked before a piece leaves the premises.
Fourtwo corner sofa in grey fabric
This Fourtwo is a corner sofa with a grey fabric cover. The longchair forms the corner on the right, seen from the front, and the swivel sofa stands to its left. The grey looks calm and can be combined with both light and dark furniture. The corner sofa seats three and suits city flats, living rooms or studies. On the longchair you can lie with your legs stretched out, for example to read.
Seating comfort and space
According to specialist retailers, the seat consists of a polyurethane foam core over sinuous springs. With a seat depth of just over 50 cm, you sit upright, and the seat height of 44 cm is within the usual range. The Fourtwo needs around 2.6 m along one wall and 1.85 m along the other. When it becomes a bed, the depth increases to up to 210 cm according to the dimension sheet. Allow around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it.
Functions and additions
For the Fourtwo, Brühl offers headrests and table modules that come in handy when it is used as a bed. One table sits under the swivel sofa, and a second sits under the longchair's side arm and can be pulled forward. The base is available in metal or wood. If a mechanical fitting wears over the years, Brühl replaces it.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle, including the gaps between the longchair and the swivel sofa. Dab stains with a damp, lint-free cloth rather than rubbing. Direct sunlight and nearby radiators make colours fade. For a thorough clean, take the cover off – according to the manufacturer, many Brühl fabrics can be washed or professionally cleaned.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Fourtwo?
The Fourtwo comes from Brühl's workshop in Bad Steben, where the family business has been making upholstered furniture since 1948. There, each cover is sewn entirely by one person, and every conversion function is checked before leaving the workshop. Brühl offers replacement covers in a new colour or a different material. The upholstery can be replaced as well, while the frame stays. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How is the Fourtwo's seat constructed?
A specialist retailer describes the corner sofa's seat as having a sinuous spring base and a polyurethane foam core, and gives the seat depth as 52 cm. The soft version is softer, while compact is firmer.
What is the difference between Fourtwo soft and Fourtwo compact?
The soft version has soft, relaxed upholstery and looks cosy. The compact version feels pleasantly firmer and, with its smooth surfaces, has a clean-cut look that shows off patterned covers well. Each version has its own matching set of cushions.
How does the Fourtwo become a double bed?
Turn the swivel sofa until it is parallel to the longchair. In a few easy steps, this creates a double bed of 150 × 210 cm. An optional table under the swivel sofa is revealed in the process and serves as a bedside surface.
What is the surface under the Fourtwo's armrest for?
The swivel sofa's armrest can be lifted up. Underneath is a table surface with room for a book, a glass or the remote control right next to your seat. Unlike the optional table modules, this surface is part of the swivel sofa, according to Brühl.
How do you operate the Fourtwo's swivel sofa?
You turn the swivel sofa through 90 degrees by hand – there is no motor. Depending on its position, it forms a corner with the longchair or stands parallel next to it. Brühl developed the swivel fittings specifically for convertible models.
How do you clean the fabric cover of a Fourtwo?
The fabric covers are attached to the sofa body with hook-and-loop tape and can be removed. According to Brühl, washable fabrics can go in the machine on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, without tumble drying, and others are dry-cleaned. Before washing, cover the hooks with loop tape.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
