About the model
Brühl Moule Medium – sofa, lounger, double bed
Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule as a sofa that transforms in a few simple moves; Brühl has been making it since 2003. At the heart of the design is the swivel seat: turn it by 90 degrees and the armrest comes to the front to become a footrest. You then lower the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal if you wish, and adjust the headrest separately. Its hallmark is the bend in the backrest, which, according to Brühl, points to this adjustability. Brühl offers the Moule Medium as a stand-alone sofa and as a corner configuration.
Moule Medium two-seater in grey fabric – floor model
This two-seater is a Moule Medium with a fabric cover in grey. It was on display and has never been used in a home. The neutral grey combines well with cushions in strong colours, wood and metal. Two people sit side by side here; the sofa fits into a living room as well as a study or guest room. At 1.8 m wide, it is easy to place in smaller flats too.
Seating comfort and space
You sit on foam padding over hooked-in sinuous springs; Brühl relies on high-density foams for a seat that holds its shape. The seat is a good half metre deep, and the seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. The sofa needs 1.8 m along the wall and 110 cm in depth. In the lounge position, the Moule Medium needs up to 30 cm more at the side of each swivel seat and up to 44 cm more to the rear, according to Brühl.
Elements and additions
The Moule series includes two-seaters and three-seaters, armchairs, footstools, longchairs and corner configurations. According to Brühl, the sizes can be combined with each other. Typical of the series are swivel seats whose armrests become footrests, and backrests that adjust to any angle, with a separately adjustable headrest. Orders are placed through Brühl retail partners, who can also obtain replacement covers.
Caring for the fabric cover
Regular vacuuming keeps the fabric fresh. Dab stains with a damp cloth. You can take the cover off: undo the hook-and-loop fasteners at the bottom and pull it off upwards, starting from one corner. Whether it is washed or dry-cleaned depends on the fabric. Washable covers go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C.
Why a Brühl Moule Medium floor model?
Since 1948, the family-owned company Brühl has been making upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, designed and produced at its headquarters. As a floor model, this Moule Medium comes from a display, not from a household. Worth knowing for later: the cover is removable and renewable, and the mechanism fittings can be replaced. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What does the bend in the Moule's backrest mean?
It is the hallmark of the design. According to Brühl, it gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time indicates that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests of the individual seats separately.
How do you clean the Moule's fabric cover?
Undo the hook-and-loop fasteners at the bottom of the sofa and cover the hook tape with loop tape. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner. Depending on the fabric, it is dry-cleaned or washed on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, but never tumble-dried.
Which elements does the Moule series include?
Brühl makes the Moule as a sofa with two or three seats, as an armchair, footstool and longchair, and as a corner configuration. The longchair comes in a width of 98 or 128 cm. There are also side shelves with a wooden surface or covered in fabric or leather.
How is the Moule's upholstery constructed?
According to specialist retailers, you sit on polyurethane foam over a base of sinuous springs. Brühl tops its upholstery with a soft layer of fleece. The back cushions are quilted into chambers, so they keep their shape.
Can the Moule be added to later?
Yes. Brühl still has the Moule in its range and sells armchairs, footstools and longchairs through its retail partners. According to Brühl, the sizes can be combined, so elements from a different Moule version will also match.
What is the idea behind the Moule?
The Moule combines a sofa, a lounger and a bed in one piece of furniture. In a few simple moves, the swivel seats become loungers or a lying surface. According to Brühl, the range extends from a stand-alone sofa to versatile corner configurations.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
