About the model
Brühl Roro Soft Medium – convertible sofa with full upholstery
On the Roro Soft Medium, the engineering is hidden beneath full upholstery. The two swivel seats can be swivelled separately through 90 degrees and swung into a lounging or lying position. You adjust the armrests and backrests to any position. Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Roro, and Brühl has been building it since 1998, comparing its fittings to clockwork. The soft version stands out from classic and spring thanks to its soft, enveloping upholstery. The covers are removable and renewable.
Roro Soft Medium two-seater in grey fabric – floor model
This Roro Soft Medium, a two-seater with the full upholstery of the soft version, is covered in grey fabric. As a floor model, it was only on display and was never used in a home. The understated grey lets the soft upholstered shape speak for itself. With colourful cushions or throws, you can easily change the look. The sofa suits living rooms and studies. A one-of-a-kind piece for two people.
Seating comfort and space
According to the dimension sheet, the width of 192 cm matches the medium soft two-seater. Specialist retailers quote an upholstery core of polyurethane foam on sinuous springs and a seat depth of 57 cm for it. At 45 cm, the seat height is at the upper end of the usual range. The sofa needs just over 1.9 m of wall space and 90 cm of depth, or two metres in the lying position. In front of it, 60 to 80 cm of walking space makes sense.
Functions and additions
Each seat can be swivelled and swung forward individually, and you adjust the armrests and backrests to any position. All of this is done by hand. If you simply lower the armrests, you get a daybed; in the full lying position, specialist retailers quote a lying surface of 133 × 200 cm. The two-seater can be complemented with occasional tables, and castors are available for all Roro models. You can order replacement covers through specialist retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the full padding regularly with a soft upholstery nozzle, getting into the seams and folds too. Dab stains immediately with a light-coloured, damp cloth. The cover is attached to the body of the sofa with hook-and-loop tape and is removable. Depending on the fabric, it is dry-cleaned or washed on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C. It must not go in the tumble dryer.
Why a Brühl Roro Soft Medium floor model?
A floor model like this Roro Soft Medium has only ever been on display. Later on, too, Brühl can renew a great deal: mechanical fittings can be replaced, feet, castors and glides are available as replacements, and the upholstery and covers can be renewed. Manufacturing has taken place in the workshop in Bad Steben since 1948. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Roro Medium and the Roro Small?
The Roro Medium is the larger version, while the Roro Small is the compact one for rooms with little floor space. According to Brühl, the Small takes up very little room yet still converts into a bed in no time. Both sizes are available in the classic, spring and soft versions.
How do you remove the cover of the Roro?
Undo the hook-and-loop strips along the lower edges and fold the hem outwards. Cover the hooks of the tape with loop tape so that they do not damage anything. Then pull the cover off starting from one corner, and later put it back on in reverse order.
Can the cushions or upholstery of the Roro be replaced?
Yes. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions and similar parts can be ordered individually. Cushion fillings are available as spare parts, and the upholstery of every Brühl model can be replaced while the frame stays.
Which elements belong to the Roro range?
According to the dimension sheet, there are multifunctional armchairs, two-seaters with one or two swivel seats, intermediate elements, a corner element, corner sofa elements, longchairs, recliners and a footstool. These make up sofas and corner arrangements in many variations. Occasional tables and table modules complete the range.
Can you sit on the Roro’s lowered armrests?
It is better not to. Brühl sees folded-out armrests as an extension of the lying surface or as a footrest, not as a seat. Anyone who regularly puts their full body weight on them risks damaging the mechanism.
What is the footstool in the Roro range for?
The footstool complements a sofa, armchair or corner arrangement as a footrest or an extra seat. According to the dimension sheet, it measures 75 × 75 cm for the Roro Medium and 65 × 65 cm for the Roro Small. Brühl offers it in the classic, spring and soft versions.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
