About the model

Brühl Roro Medium – sofa with swivel seats

The Roro was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl, and Brühl has been building it in its own workshop since 1998. Its hallmark is its swivel seats: they can be swivelled through 90 degrees and swung into a lounging or lying position. Added to this are armrests and backrests that are infinitely adjustable. Brühl has tested these conversion mechanisms over many years and continually improved them. Roro Medium is the larger of the two Roro sizes; there is also the compact Roro Small. The covers are removable and renewable.

Roro Medium two-seater in dark grey fabric

This Roro Medium, a two-seater, is covered in a dark grey fabric. The dark tone looks calm and stands out clearly against light walls and floors. Cushions in mustard, petrol blue or white show up well against it. The two-seater suits a living room, a study or a guest room where it becomes a lounger at night. A one-of-a-kind piece for two people that needs little space.

Seating comfort and space

At 184 cm wide, the two-seater corresponds in the dimension sheet to the classic version, which is more firmly upholstered. The seat height of 43 cm is right in the middle of the usual range. Floor space: just over 1.8 m along the wall and 90 cm in depth. In the lying position, the sofa needs up to two metres of depth, and with the armrests lowered, 50 cm more width. Leave 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it.

Functions and additions

The Roro is operated by hand: swivel the seat through 90 degrees, swing it forward, and set the backrests and armrests to any position. Brühl developed the fittings specifically for its convertible models. If one weakens over time, it can be replaced. The range also includes longchairs, recliners, a footstool and occasional tables that can be added later.

Caring for the fabric cover

Lint tends to show up more on dark grey. A soft brush or the upholstery nozzle of your vacuum cleaner will pick it up. Dab stains with a light-coloured, damp cloth without rubbing. The cover is removable and attached with hook-and-loop tape. Depending on the fabric, it is dry-cleaned or washed on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, without tumble-drying.

Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Roro Medium?

A Roro is designed for long use: Brühl calls it comfortable, durable and reliable. The covers can be changed and the upholstery replaced, while the frame stays. It is made in Bad Steben, where Brühl has been manufacturing with a lot of handwork since 1948. The Roro is still in the range today. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.

Frequently asked questions

How large a lying surface does the Roro offer as a two-seater?

For the two-seat Roro Medium, Brühl quotes a lying surface of 133 × 200 cm, and for the compact Roro Small 130 × 189 cm. To get this, you bring both swivel seats into the lying position. A single multifunctional armchair makes a narrow lounger of 64 × 200 cm (Medium) or 65 × 189 cm (Small).

How do you remove the cover of the Roro?

Undo the hook-and-loop strips along the lower edges and fold the hem outwards. Cover the hooks of the tape with loop tape so that they do not damage anything. Then pull the cover off starting from one corner, and later put it back on in reverse order.

Can you change the Roro’s cover, for example from leather to fabric?

Yes. You can order replacement covers through specialist retailers or Brühl’s customer service, and for models with removable covers also in a different material. Where a cover consists of several parts, individual parts can be replaced as long as the fabric or leather is still available.

How does the Roro become a daybed?

Lower the armrests to the side and, according to Brühl, the two-seat Roro becomes a daybed. You can then set the backrests to any position that suits you. The lowered armrests are meant to lengthen the lying surface, not to be sat on.

Which upholstery versions are available for the Roro?

Brühl makes the Roro in the classic, spring and soft versions. The classic version offers firmer seating comfort and a smooth, slim contour. The spring version has an integrated pocket spring core and an elastic, springy feel, while the soft version has softer upholstery and looks opulent thanks to its full padding.

Can the cushions or upholstery of the Roro be replaced?

Yes. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions and similar parts can be ordered individually. Cushion fillings are available as spare parts, and the upholstery of every Brühl model can be replaced while the frame stays.

Can I see the piece before buying?

Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.

About the brand

All Brühl in stock

The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
