About the model
Brühl Roro Medium Soft – softly upholstered armchair
Brühl has been building the Roro since 1998 to a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl. Medium is the larger of the two Roro sizes. In the soft version, a slender-looking base carries opulent upholstery, and Brühl describes the seating comfort as soft and enveloping. The armchair is available as a multifunctional armchair with a swivel seat. A second version has an adjustable backrest and a seat base without a swivel function, either as an add-on element or on its own. The covers are removable and renewable.
Roro Medium Soft armchair in grey and beige fabric
This armchair belongs to the Roro Medium Soft and is covered in grey and beige fabric. Its width of 96 cm corresponds in the dimension sheet to the multifunctional armchair in the soft version. The mix of colours looks warm and calm and suits both light and dark furniture. The armchair is well suited to reading corners and small living rooms, or as a companion to a sofa. With a footstool in front of it, it becomes a comfortable place to read. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
According to specialist retailers, the soft version has a polyurethane foam core on sinuous springs, with the full upholstery on top. The seat height of 45 cm is at the upper end of the usual range. The armchair needs just under a metre of width and 90 cm of depth. As a lounger, it extends up to two metres into the room according to the dimension sheet, and with the armrest lowered it becomes just over 20 cm wider.
Functions and additions
As a multifunctional armchair, it is operated by hand: swivel the seat through 90 degrees, swing it forward, and set the backrest and armrest to any position. According to Brühl, this creates a lying surface of 64 × 200 cm. Two multifunctional armchairs placed side by side form a two-seat sofa, and a table module can connect them. The module can also be ordered later.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the armchair regularly with a soft upholstery nozzle. Dab stains with a light-coloured, damp cloth, working from the outside in. The cover is removable and attached with hook-and-loop tape. Washable fabrics can go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C; otherwise, dry cleaning is the answer. Direct sunlight makes light tones fade over time.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Roro Medium Soft?
A multifunctional armchair has to cope with a lot of movement. Brühl has developed its own fittings for this, tests them before they leave the workshop and replaces them if they weaken. The family business has been manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948. The upholstery and covers can be renewed, while the frame stays. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Can the cushions or upholstery of the Roro be replaced?
Yes. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions and similar parts can be ordered individually. Cushion fillings are available as spare parts, and the upholstery of every Brühl model can be replaced while the frame stays.
How do you remove the cover of the Roro?
Undo the hook-and-loop strips along the lower edges and fold the hem outwards. Cover the hooks of the tape with loop tape so that they do not damage anything. Then pull the cover off starting from one corner, and later put it back on in reverse order.
Can you change the Roro’s cover, for example from leather to fabric?
Yes. You can order replacement covers through specialist retailers or Brühl’s customer service, and for models with removable covers also in a different material. Where a cover consists of several parts, individual parts can be replaced as long as the fabric or leather is still available.
Can you sit on the Roro’s lowered armrests?
It is better not to. Brühl sees folded-out armrests as an extension of the lying surface or as a footrest, not as a seat. Anyone who regularly puts their full body weight on them risks damaging the mechanism.
What is the footstool in the Roro range for?
The footstool complements a sofa, armchair or corner arrangement as a footrest or an extra seat. According to the dimension sheet, it measures 75 × 75 cm for the Roro Medium and 65 × 65 cm for the Roro Small. Brühl offers it in the classic, spring and soft versions.
Is the Roro available with castors?
Yes. For all Roro models, Brühl offers a base with two castors at the back, or alternatively a height-adjustable base. If needed, castors and glides are also available as spare parts through specialist retailers or directly from Brühl.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
