About the model
Brühl Roro Medium – convertible two-seater
The Roro is the work of Roland Meyer-Brühl and has been part of Brühl’s range since 1998. The manufacturer calls it a milestone of modern, purist design. The principle: the seats swivel through 90 degrees and swing forward into a lounging or lying position. The armrests and backrests are infinitely adjustable. This turns the slim sofa into a lounger. The Roro comes in two sizes, Medium and Small, and in three versions: classic, spring and soft. According to Brühl, high tech and craftsmanship lie behind the simple form.
Roro Medium two-seater in red leather
This two-seater in the Medium size is covered in red leather. Against light walls or next to grey and black, the strong colour makes a clear statement, while with light wood and white it looks fresh. The two-seater suits living rooms, reading rooms or studies. Because each seat can be adjusted on its own, one person can read while the other lies down. A one-of-a-kind piece for two people.
Seating comfort and space
According to the dimension sheet, the width of 184 cm corresponds to the classic two-seater, the version with firmer seating comfort. With a seat height of 43 cm, you sit at the usual height. The sofa takes up around 1.8 × 0.9 m. If you lower both armrests, it becomes 50 cm wider. In the lying position, the depth increases to two metres. Keep this space free if you often use the Roro as a lounger.
Functions and additions
To lie down, you swivel a seat through 90 degrees and swing it forward, then set the armrests and backrests to any position. According to Brühl, the conversion is comfortable and easy. Castors at the back of the base are available for all Roro models, and castors and glides are also available as spare parts. The range also includes multifunctional armchairs, longchairs and recliners.
Caring for the leather cover
Red leather keeps its colour best out of direct sunlight. Wipe away dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and dab stains rather than rubbing them. Once or twice a year, the leather needs a suitable care product. Harsh cleaners and solvents are off limits. If necessary, you can have the removable cover renewed.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Roro Medium?
Brühl describes the Roro’s design language as timelessly contemporary; the sofa has been built since 1998. It is made by the family business in Bad Steben, which has been producing upholstered furniture since 1948. A pre-owned Roro Medium can be adapted: replacement covers are available through specialist retailers, including fabric instead of leather if you wish. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Can you sit on the Roro’s lowered armrests?
It is better not to. Brühl sees folded-out armrests as an extension of the lying surface or as a footrest, not as a seat. Anyone who regularly puts their full body weight on them risks damaging the mechanism.
What should you do about a stain on the Roro’s leather cover?
Act quickly: dab up liquid with an absorbent, light-coloured cloth without rubbing. Then go over it with a slightly damp cloth and let the leather air-dry, never with a hairdryer or on a radiator. For stubborn stains, a specialist leather care company can help.
How large a lying surface does the Roro offer as a two-seater?
For the two-seat Roro Medium, Brühl quotes a lying surface of 133 × 200 cm, and for the compact Roro Small 130 × 189 cm. To get this, you bring both swivel seats into the lying position. A single multifunctional armchair makes a narrow lounger of 64 × 200 cm (Medium) or 65 × 189 cm (Small).
Can occasional tables be added to the Roro later?
Yes. Brühl offers decorative occasional tables for the Roro, which can also be fitted at a later date. With the multifunctional armchairs, a table module can connect two armchairs; this module can also be ordered later.
Can the cushions or upholstery of the Roro be replaced?
Yes. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions and similar parts can be ordered individually. Cushion fillings are available as spare parts, and the upholstery of every Brühl model can be replaced while the frame stays.
What is the difference between the Roro Medium and the Roro Small?
The Roro Medium is the larger version, while the Roro Small is the compact one for rooms with little floor space. According to Brühl, the Small takes up very little room yet still converts into a bed in no time. Both sizes are available in the classic, spring and soft versions.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
