About the model
Brühl Roro Medium – convertible two-seater
At Brühl, Roro has stood for one principle since 1998: seats that swivel through 90 degrees and armrests and backrests that are infinitely adjustable. It was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl. From the basic position, you can bring each seat into a lounging or lying position. The Roro is made in the Medium and Small sizes, each in the classic, spring or soft version. The elements of the range can be combined in many ways. The covers are removable and the base is height-adjustable.
Roro Medium two-seater in grey fabric – floor model
A two-seater in the Medium size with a grey fabric cover: as a floor model, this Roro was only on display and was never used in a home. Grey is a calm base colour that goes with almost any interior. Cushions in yellow, green or rust quickly give the sofa a new accent. The two-seater is at home in living rooms, studies or guest rooms with limited floor space. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
According to the dimension sheet, the width of 184 cm corresponds to the classic two-seater. This is the Roro version with firmer seating comfort and a slim contour. With a seat height of 42 cm, you sit as you would on most sofas. Allow just over 1.8 m of wall space and 90 cm of depth. Lying down adds just over a metre of depth, and lowered armrests add 50 cm to the width. In front of the sofa, 60 to 80 cm of walking space makes sense.
Functions and additions
The two-seater converts in just a few simple steps: swivel the seats, swing them forward, adjust the armrests and backrests. No motor is needed for this. Together, the two seats form a lying surface of 133 × 200 cm, and with the armrests lowered, you get a daybed. Occasional tables can be added later. Loose seat cushions and cushion fillings are available individually from Brühl.
Caring for the fabric cover
A vacuum cleaner with an upholstery nozzle is the most important care tool for this cover. Dab up liquids immediately with an absorbent, light-coloured cloth. The fabric cover is removable: undo the hook-and-loop strips, cover the hooks with loop tape and pull the cover off starting from one corner. It is dry-cleaned or, if the fabric is washable, washed at no more than 30 °C and not tumble-dried.
Why a Brühl Roro Medium floor model?
A floor model like this Roro Medium has never known everyday life in a home. Brühl has been building the Roro since 1998 and has tested and improved its conversion mechanisms over many years. The upholstery of every Brühl model can be replaced while the frame stays. The family business has been manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Which upholstery versions are available for the Roro?
Brühl makes the Roro in the classic, spring and soft versions. The classic version offers firmer seating comfort and a smooth, slim contour. The spring version has an integrated pocket spring core and an elastic, springy feel, while the soft version has softer upholstery and looks opulent thanks to its full padding.
Can you sit on the Roro’s lowered armrests?
It is better not to. Brühl sees folded-out armrests as an extension of the lying surface or as a footrest, not as a seat. Anyone who regularly puts their full body weight on them risks damaging the mechanism.
Is the Roro available with castors?
Yes. For all Roro models, Brühl offers a base with two castors at the back, or alternatively a height-adjustable base. If needed, castors and glides are also available as spare parts through specialist retailers or directly from Brühl.
What can you do if a fitting on the Roro weakens?
Brühl can replace mechanical fittings that have weakened, and the company has over 30 years of experience with them. After that, the conversion works as usual again. The upholstery can also be renewed, while the frame is kept.
Can a Roro be reupholstered?
Yes. On the Roro, you can fit a replacement cover yourself, or alternatively Brühl will reupholster the piece in its workshop. According to Brühl, covers made of several parts even allow colours and materials to be mixed.
What is the footstool in the Roro range for?
The footstool complements a sofa, armchair or corner arrangement as a footrest or an extra seat. According to the dimension sheet, it measures 75 × 75 cm for the Roro Medium and 65 × 65 cm for the Roro Small. Brühl offers it in the classic, spring and soft versions.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
