About the model
Brühl Roro Medium – convertible two-seater
The Roro has been part of Brühl’s range since 1998 and was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl. In it, Brühl combines high tech with craftsmanship. According to the manufacturer, the conversion fittings run as precisely and smoothly as clockwork. Each seat swivels through 90 degrees and can be swung forward all the way into the lying position. You can set the armrests and backrests to any position you like. The upholstery rests on a delicate base that is height-adjustable or, on request, has two castors at the back.
Roro Medium two-seater in grey fabric
This Roro Medium, a two-seater, is covered in grey fabric. The understated tone can be combined with wood, metal and colourful cushions, and next to oak or walnut it looks particularly calm. The two-seater suits city flats, studies or guest rooms where floor space is limited. In the lying position, it offers room for an overnight guest when needed. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
Its width of 184 cm corresponds to the classic two-seater in Brühl’s dimension sheet. Brühl describes this version as having firmer seating comfort and smooth, slightly rounded upholstery. The seat height of 42 cm is standard. The sofa needs just over 1.8 m of wall space and 90 cm of depth. For the lying position, up to two metres of depth should be free. The usual guideline for walking space in front of the sofa is around 60 to 80 cm.
Functions and additions
The two swivel seats work independently of each other. You swivel them through 90 degrees by hand and swing them forward all the way into the lying position. The backrests and armrests are infinitely adjustable. From the same range, a multifunctional armchair, a footstool and occasional tables go well with it. Replacement covers, including in a different material, are available through specialist retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the grey fabric regularly with a soft upholstery nozzle. Dab stains immediately with a light-coloured, damp cloth, working from the outside in. To take off the removable cover, undo the hook-and-loop strips. Washable fabrics can go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C; others should be dry-cleaned. The cover should never go in the tumble dryer.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Roro Medium?
Brühl has been making upholstered furniture in Bad Steben since 1948, and each complete cover is sewn there by a single person. On a pre-owned Roro Medium, almost everything can be renewed: mechanical fittings, upholstery and covers. The frame stays. Because the Roro is still in the range, specialist retailers offer replacement covers in a new colour or a different material. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Can the cushions or upholstery of the Roro be replaced?
Yes. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions and similar parts can be ordered individually. Cushion fillings are available as spare parts, and the upholstery of every Brühl model can be replaced while the frame stays.
What should you do about a stain on the Roro’s fabric cover?
Dab fresh stains immediately with a light-coloured, absorbent cloth, working from the outside in. Do not rub, or the fabric will roughen and the stain will get bigger. Stubborn stains often only disappear once the cover has been removed and cleaned.
Which elements belong to the Roro range?
According to the dimension sheet, there are multifunctional armchairs, two-seaters with one or two swivel seats, intermediate elements, a corner element, corner sofa elements, longchairs, recliners and a footstool. These make up sofas and corner arrangements in many variations. Occasional tables and table modules complete the range.
How does the Roro become a daybed?
Lower the armrests to the side and, according to Brühl, the two-seat Roro becomes a daybed. You can then set the backrests to any position that suits you. The lowered armrests are meant to lengthen the lying surface, not to be sat on.
What is the difference between the Roro Medium and the Roro Small?
The Roro Medium is the larger version, while the Roro Small is the compact one for rooms with little floor space. According to Brühl, the Small takes up very little room yet still converts into a bed in no time. Both sizes are available in the classic, spring and soft versions.
How large a lying surface does the Roro offer as a two-seater?
For the two-seat Roro Medium, Brühl quotes a lying surface of 133 × 200 cm, and for the compact Roro Small 130 × 189 cm. To get this, you bring both swivel seats into the lying position. A single multifunctional armchair makes a narrow lounger of 64 × 200 cm (Medium) or 65 × 189 cm (Small).
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
