About the model
Brühl Roro Medium – sofa with swivel seats
Brühl describes the Roro as a milestone of modern, purist design. It was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl and has been in the range since 1998. Its graceful, minimalist form is meant to fit easily into changing interiors. There is a lot of engineering behind it: seats that swivel through 90 degrees swing into a lounging or lying position, and the armrests and backrests are infinitely adjustable. The Roro is made in two sizes and three upholstery versions. The bases are either height-adjustable or fitted with two castors at the back.
Roro Medium two-seater in brown fabric – floor model
This two-seater in the Medium size is upholstered in pure new wool in brown. As a floor model, it was only on display and was never used in a home. The wool feels warm and pleasantly textured, and the brown gives the slim sofa a homely feel. Wood, linen and warm colours go well with it. It suits a living room, a reading room or a study where a guest occasionally stays the night.
Seating comfort and space
At 184 cm wide, this two-seater corresponds to the classic version in Brühl’s dimension sheet. Brühl describes this version as having firmer seating comfort and a smooth, slim contour. The seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. The sofa needs just over 1.8 m of wall space and 90 cm of depth. As a lounger, it extends up to two metres into the room. Around 60 to 80 cm of walking space should be left clear in front of it.
Functions and additions
Each of the two swivel seats can be adjusted separately. This means one person can sit upright while the other lies down. If you simply lower the armrests to the side, the sofa becomes a daybed, according to Brühl. The lowered armrests are an extension of the lying surface or a footrest, not a seat. Occasional tables can also be fitted later. Replacement covers are available through specialist retailers or Brühl’s customer service.
Caring for the wool cover
Wool is a natural material and likes gentle care. Vacuum the cover regularly with a soft upholstery nozzle and dab stains with a light-coloured, damp cloth. The cover is removable and attached to the body of the sofa with hook-and-loop tape. Depending on the fabric, it is dry-cleaned or washed on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, never tumble-dried.
Why a Brühl Roro Medium floor model?
This Roro Medium served only as a floor model. It was built in Brühl’s workshop in Bad Steben, where the company has been manufacturing with a high proportion of handwork since 1948. At final inspection, Brühl tests every conversion mechanism. The fittings can be replaced and the covers renewed. In addition, this piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How do you operate the swivel seats on the Roro?
You swivel the seat through 90 degrees by hand and swing it forward until it reaches the lounging or lying position you want. You can adjust the armrests and backrests to any position. There is no motor; according to Brühl, the conversion is comfortable and easy.
Which upholstery versions are available for the Roro?
Brühl makes the Roro in the classic, spring and soft versions. The classic version offers firmer seating comfort and a smooth, slim contour. The spring version has an integrated pocket spring core and an elastic, springy feel, while the soft version has softer upholstery and looks opulent thanks to its full padding.
How do you remove the cover of the Roro?
Undo the hook-and-loop strips along the lower edges and fold the hem outwards. Cover the hooks of the tape with loop tape so that they do not damage anything. Then pull the cover off starting from one corner, and later put it back on in reverse order.
How large a lying surface does the Roro offer as a two-seater?
For the two-seat Roro Medium, Brühl quotes a lying surface of 133 × 200 cm, and for the compact Roro Small 130 × 189 cm. To get this, you bring both swivel seats into the lying position. A single multifunctional armchair makes a narrow lounger of 64 × 200 cm (Medium) or 65 × 189 cm (Small).
Which elements belong to the Roro range?
According to the dimension sheet, there are multifunctional armchairs, two-seaters with one or two swivel seats, intermediate elements, a corner element, corner sofa elements, longchairs, recliners and a footstool. These make up sofas and corner arrangements in many variations. Occasional tables and table modules complete the range.
Can the cushions or upholstery of the Roro be replaced?
Yes. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions and similar parts can be ordered individually. Cushion fillings are available as spare parts, and the upholstery of every Brühl model can be replaced while the frame stays.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
