About the model
Brühl Moule – a reclining sofa with swivel seats
Putting your feet up after work, reading in peace on a Sunday: this is what the Moule is built for. Roland Meyer-Brühl designed it with swivel seats, and Brühl has offered it since 2003. Turn a seat 90 degrees and the armrest moves to the front and can be lowered as a footrest. You then set the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal, and adjust the headrest separately. The Small, Medium, Large and Extra Small versions can be combined.
Moule two-seater in beige fabric
This Moule is a two-seater with a fabric cover in beige and a reclining function. One seat can be swivelled and converted into a lounger while the second stays in the sitting position. This makes the two-seater a good fit for a living room or reading corner if you also want to put your feet up on the sofa. The beige looks light and friendly and combines well with wood. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
The seat rests on sinuous springs, topped with layers of high-density foam and soft wadding. Brühl states that the aim is a seat that holds its shape and stays consistently comfortable. The seat height of 42 cm is typical. The sofa needs 1.8 m of width and 90 cm of depth, plus around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front. With the seats adjusted, a Moule two-seater becomes up to 60 cm wider and 44 cm deeper, according to the current dimension sheet.
Functions and additions
For the lounge position, you turn a seat 90 degrees forwards. You lower the armrest to form a footrest and recline the backrest to any angle. According to Brühl, the lowered armrest is a footrest, not a seat. There is no motor built in. The series also includes three-seaters with a footstool at the middle seat, armchairs and corner configurations.
Caring for the fabric cover
A light fabric like this beige is best vacuumed weekly. Dab stains straight away with a damp, light-coloured cloth, without rubbing. Keep the sofa away from strong sunlight and radiators. The cover is removable and, depending on the fabric quality, can be washed or dry-cleaned; according to Brühl, it should not go in the tumble dryer.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?
The Moule has been in the range since 2003, and its construction allows the parts under the most strain to be replaced: covers, padding and mechanisms. According to Brühl, you can fit replacement covers yourself. As a family business, Brühl has been manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948 and designs its seating to last for decades. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How is the Moule upholstered?
According to Brühl, the seat rests on sinuous springs hooked into the frame. On top are layers of high-density upholstery foam and a soft layer of wadding; for the Moule Medium, specialist retailers state a core of polyurethane foam. Brühl tailors the layers to the model, the seating comfort and the type of cover.
Can just part of the Moule's cover be replaced?
With covers made of several parts, yes, provided the fabric or leather is still available. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions can also be re-covered separately while the rest of the cover stays in use. Orders are placed through Brühl specialist retailers.
What can you do if the Moule's mechanism becomes stiff?
If a fitting weakens over time, Brühl says it can always be replaced, which fully restores the function. Brühl states that it has more than 30 years of experience in developing such fittings for swivel seats and rests that can be lowered.
What is the bend in the Moule's backrest for?
It is the Moule's signature feature. According to Brühl, the bend gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests independently of each other.
How do you remove the Moule's cover?
The cover is attached to the frame with hook-and-loop strips. Undo the fasteners all the way round the bottom edge and cover the hook strips straight away with loop tape so that they do not damage the fabric. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner – that is how Brühl describes it.
Can the Moule's padding be renewed later on?
Yes. According to Brühl, the padding can be replaced on every one of its seating models while the frame stays in use. Sometimes it is enough just to renew the wadding wrap – the seat then becomes softer or the padding fuller.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
