About the model
Brühl Moule Small – an armchair from the transforming series
Reading upright, leaning back, putting your feet up: the Moule armchair is designed for these changes. It belongs to the Moule transforming series, which Roland Meyer-Brühl designed and Brühl has been making since 2003. Brühl describes the armchair with a swivel seat too: swung 90 degrees forwards, the lowered armrest serves as a footrest. The backrest and headrest can then be adjusted separately. The series comes in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Small versions.
Moule Small armchair in grey fabric – floor model
This armchair is from the Moule series in the Small version and is upholstered in grey fabric. It was on display in a showroom and was never used in a home. As a single seat, it complements a Moule sofa or stands on its own in a reading or work corner. The neutral grey goes with almost any sofa colour, whether fabric or leather. In a bedroom or guest room, too, it makes a comfortable reading spot. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
Brühl builds the armchair on sinuous springs hooked into the frame too, topped with high-density foam and a soft layer of wadding. This gives you seating that holds its shape, while the surface stays soft. The seat height of 42 cm is a typical figure. At 82 cm wide and 96 cm deep, the armchair needs just under 0.8 square metres. According to the current dimension sheet, a Moule armchair needs up to 44 cm more depth in the lounge position.
Elements and additions
Brühl offers the Moule armchair in the Small and Medium versions. It goes with the sofas, corner sofas and footstools of the series, which can be combined across the versions. For models with removable covers such as this armchair, Brühl makes replacement covers, including a switch from fabric to leather. The manufacturer also offers replacement feet or glides.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the grey fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle so that dust does not settle in the weave. Dab stains with a damp cloth instead of rubbing. The cover can be removed. According to Brühl, washable covers are washed on a gentle cycle at up to 30 degrees, and the rest are dry-cleaned. No cover should go in the tumble dryer.
Why a Brühl Moule Small floor model?
The Moule has been in the range since 2003, and Brühl designs its armchairs and sofas for use over decades. The cover, padding and mechanisms can be renewed, while the solid beech frame remains. The family business has been manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948. This armchair has only ever stood in a showroom and has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Moule armchair transform?
Brühl builds the Moule armchair with a swivel seat. It is swung 90 degrees forwards, and the lowered armrest then serves as a footrest. The backrest and headrest can then be adjusted separately – turning the armchair into a lounger.
Does the Moule feel firm or soft to sit on?
That depends on the upholstery layers, which Brühl puts together according to the model, the desired seating comfort and the type of cover. The basis is sinuous springs and high-density foam, with soft wadding on top. This makes the seat hold its shape while feeling soft on the surface.
How do you remove the Moule's cover?
The cover is attached to the frame with hook-and-loop strips. Undo the fasteners all the way round the bottom edge and cover the hook strips straight away with loop tape so that they do not damage the fabric. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner – that is how Brühl describes it.
Can the Moule's padding be renewed later on?
Yes. According to Brühl, the padding can be replaced on every one of its seating models while the frame stays in use. Sometimes it is enough just to renew the wadding wrap – the seat then becomes softer or the padding fuller.
Can you sit on the lowered armrest of the Moule armchair?
Better not. Brühl intends folded-down armrests as a footrest or an extension of the surface you lie on, not as a seat. Anyone who repeatedly puts their full body weight on them risks damaging the mechanism.
Can just part of the Moule's cover be replaced?
With covers made of several parts, yes, provided the fabric or leather is still available. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions can also be re-covered separately while the rest of the cover stays in use. Orders are placed through Brühl specialist retailers.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
