About the model
Brühl Moule – a transforming sofa in leather
Feet up for a TV evening, lying flat for an afternoon nap, a bed for guests: the Moule takes on all three roles. This is made possible by swivel seats designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl. Once a seat is turned 90 degrees, the armrest is at the front and, when lowered, serves as a footrest. You then set the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal. Brühl has been making the Moule since 2003, and all functions are operated by hand.
Moule two-seater in grey leather – floor model
This Moule is a two-seater in grey leather with a sleep function. It was on display in a showroom and was never used in a home. Both seats can be swivelled and adjusted independently of each other; together they form a sleeping surface for overnight guests. The grey leather goes well with wood, glass and metal. The sofa suits living rooms, studies or guest rooms. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
The Moule rests on sinuous springs hooked into the frame, topped with layers of high-density foam and a soft layer of wadding beneath the leather. For the current Moule Medium, specialist retailers state a seat depth of 53 cm; the seat height of 42 cm is typical. The sofa takes up 1.8 m of wall and 90 cm of depth. Leave around 60 to 80 cm clear in front of the sofa. For the sleeping surface, the current dimension sheet adds up to 44 cm of depth and 60 cm of width.
Functions and additions
For sleeping, you swing both seats 90 degrees forwards and lower the backrests to horizontal. You adjust the headrests separately. According to Brühl, the mechanisms can be replaced if they no longer move smoothly. The series offers additions such as armchairs or footstools, as well as longchairs and corner sofas.
Caring for the leather cover
Regular dusting with a soft cloth is all the leather needs. Blot spills straight away, without rubbing. Once or twice a year, give the leather a suitable care product; test it first on a hidden area. Keep the sofa away from radiators and direct sunlight. The cover is removable, but leather is never washed.
Why a Brühl Moule floor model?
The Moule has been in Brühl's range since 2003 and is designed to last for decades. Covers can be removed and renewed, fittings and padding exchanged. Brühl is a family business that has been building upholstered furniture in Bad Steben since 1948. This sofa has only ever stood in a showroom. We have inspected it in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Moule's padding be renewed later on?
Yes. According to Brühl, the padding can be replaced on every one of its seating models while the frame stays in use. Sometimes it is enough just to renew the wadding wrap – the seat then becomes softer or the padding fuller.
Does the Moule feel firm or soft to sit on?
That depends on the upholstery layers, which Brühl puts together according to the model, the desired seating comfort and the type of cover. The basis is sinuous springs and high-density foam, with soft wadding on top. This makes the seat hold its shape while feeling soft on the surface.
Can you sit on the Moule's lowered armrest?
You should not. According to Brühl, folded-down armrests are intended as a footrest or as an extension of the surface you lie on, not as a seat. Putting your full body weight on them for long periods or repeatedly can impair the mechanism.
Can you order new covers for the Moule?
Yes. Brühl makes replacement covers for models with removable covers such as the Moule, and they are ordered through Brühl specialist retailers. According to the manufacturer, you can fit them yourself. Switching from fabric to leather or vice versa is always possible.
What is a footstool used for with the Moule?
It turns another seat into a lounger. On the Moule three-seater, a footstool in front of the middle seat creates a lounge function, so that, according to Brühl, up to three people can relax. The same works at the middle seat of the corner sofas.
What is the bend in the Moule's backrest for?
It is the Moule's signature feature. According to Brühl, the bend gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests independently of each other.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
