Brühl Moule – a sofa bed with a lounge function

You can spend the whole day on the Moule: upright over coffee, leaning back while reading, stretched out for an afternoon nap. For this, Roland Meyer-Brühl designed two swivel seats. Swivelled 90 degrees, the armrest comes to the front and, when lowered, serves as a footrest. The backrest can then be set to any angle, right down to horizontal. Brühl has carried the Moule since 2003 and now offers it in four versions that can be combined.

This Moule is a two-seater in green fabric with a sleep function. Day to day, it is a sofa for two; when visitors come, it becomes a sleeping surface for overnight guests. The green brings colour into the room and harmonises with wood and plants. With white and natural tones it looks fresh, with dark wood calm. The piece suits living rooms or studies that occasionally host visitors. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

Brühl upholsters the Moule on sinuous springs with high-density foam, with a soft layer of wadding on top. How firm it feels is something Brühl tailors to the model and the desired seating comfort. The seat height of 42 cm is typical. The sofa is 1.8 m wide and 90 cm deep, and around 60 to 80 cm should be left clear in front. If you use it as a bed, you need more space. According to the current dimension sheet, a Moule two-seater then becomes up to 60 cm wider and 44 cm deeper.

Functions and additions

For sleeping, you turn both swivel seats into the lounge position and lower the backrests until a sleeping surface is formed. According to Brühl, this takes just a few simple movements. The series also offers matching armchairs and footstools, as well as three-seaters and corner configurations. Parts of a cover made of several pieces can be renewed individually as long as the fabric is available.

Caring for the fabric cover

To keep the green even, the sofa should not stand in strong sunlight for long periods. Vacuum the cover regularly and dab stains with a damp cloth. The cover is removable; when taking it off, Brühl advises covering the hook strips with loop tape. Washable fabrics can go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 degrees.

Longevity is built into the Moule: covers can be removed and replaced, mechanisms exchanged and padding renewed. Brühl has offered the model since 2003 and designs its seating to last for decades.
