About the model

Brühl Moule – lounger and guest bed

A sofa for the evening and a bed for the night – on the Moule, both are built into two swivel seats. You turn a seat 90 degrees, the armrest moves to the front and, when lowered, becomes a footrest. You then recline the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal if you like. According to Brühl, the bend in the backrest hints at this adjustability. The Moule was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl and has been in the range since 2003.

Moule two-seater in grey fabric

This Moule is a two-seater with a fabric cover in grey and has a sleep function. Both seats swivel and, with the backrests lowered, can be converted into a sleeping surface. During the day it seats two people; at night, a guest can sleep here. The grey looks understated and goes well with metal, glass and wood. The two-seater suits living rooms, studies or guest rooms. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

Beneath the cover are a sinuous-spring base, dense upholstery foam and a soft layer of wadding. This gives you seating that holds its shape, while the surface feels soft. The seat height of 42 cm is a typical figure. The two-seater takes up 1.8 m of wall and 90 cm of depth. Leave around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front. In the lying position, a Moule two-seater becomes up to 60 cm wider and 44 cm deeper, according to the current dimension sheet.

Functions and additions

For the sleeping surface, you turn both seats 90 degrees, lower the armrests and lay the backrests flat. You adjust the headrests separately. Brühl still offers the Moule: three-seaters, armchairs, footstools, longchairs and corner sofas complement the two-seater. The manufacturer makes replacement covers, switching from fabric to leather if you wish.

Caring for the fabric cover

Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle. Blot spills straight away with an absorbent cloth, without rubbing. Keep the cover out of strong sunlight and away from direct radiator heat. For a thorough clean, remove the cover; for washable fabrics, Brühl specifies a gentle cycle at up to 30 degrees, otherwise dry cleaning.

Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?

Brühl has been making the Moule for more than two decades, and its covers, padding and mechanisms can be renewed. Replacements for feet, glides and cushion fillings are also available. This keeps even a pre-owned Moule usable for years. Brühl, founded in 1948, manufactures at its headquarters in Bad Steben. We have inspected this piece in eight stations.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Moule adjusted by hand or electrically?

By hand. You swivel the seats and set the armrests, backrests and headrests mechanically, with no need for a cable. Brühl developed the fittings specifically for its transforming models and describes the functions as particularly smooth-running.

How is the Moule upholstered?

According to Brühl, the seat rests on sinuous springs hooked into the frame. On top are layers of high-density upholstery foam and a soft layer of wadding; for the Moule Medium, specialist retailers state a core of polyurethane foam. Brühl tailors the layers to the model, the seating comfort and the type of cover.

Can you sit on the Moule's lowered armrest?

You should not. According to Brühl, folded-down armrests are intended as a footrest or as an extension of the surface you lie on, not as a seat. Putting your full body weight on them for long periods or repeatedly can impair the mechanism.

What can you do if the Moule's mechanism becomes stiff?

If a fitting weakens over time, Brühl says it can always be replaced, which fully restores the function. Brühl states that it has more than 30 years of experience in developing such fittings for swivel seats and rests that can be lowered.

Can just part of the Moule's cover be replaced?

With covers made of several parts, yes, provided the fabric or leather is still available. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions can also be re-covered separately while the rest of the cover stays in use. Orders are placed through Brühl specialist retailers.

What is a footstool used for with the Moule?

It turns another seat into a lounger. On the Moule three-seater, a footstool in front of the middle seat creates a lounge function, so that, according to Brühl, up to three people can relax. The same works at the middle seat of the corner sofas.

Can I see the piece before buying?

Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.

About the brand

All Brühl in stock

The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
