About the model
Brühl Moule – two swivel seats, many positions
One person sits upright, the other lies back with their feet up – on the Moule, both are possible at once. The reason is two swivel seats that can be adjusted independently of each other. Swivelled 90 degrees, the armrest becomes a footrest, and the backrest can be set to any angle, right down to horizontal. Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule, and Brühl has offered it since 2003. Today there are four versions: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Small.
Moule two-seater in grey fabric
This Moule is a grey fabric two-seater with a sleep function. Each of the two seats can be swivelled and adjusted on its own – for sitting, for lying down or, with both seats together, as a place for guests to sleep. The sofa suits rooms that are a living room or study by day and a guest room by night. The grey stays neutral and lets cushions and throws stand out. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
The Moule rests on sinuous springs hooked into the frame, followed by layers of high-density foam and a soft layer of wadding. The seat holds its shape, and the surface is soft. A seat height of 42 cm is typical. The sofa needs 1.8 m of width and 90 cm of depth; leave around 60 to 80 cm clear in front of it. Because each seat can be adjusted on its own, the space needed changes with the position. According to the current dimension sheet, it is up to 60 cm more width and 44 cm more depth.
Functions and additions
You set each seat individually: swivel it, lower the armrest, adjust the backrest and headrest. Bring both seats down to horizontal and you have the sleeping surface. It is better not to sit on the lowered armrest, as Brühl intends it as a footrest. Brühl offers replacement covers and spare parts such as glides or cushion fillings.
Caring for the fabric cover
For everyday care, it is enough to vacuum the fabric regularly and dab stains straight away. Test any stain remover first on a hidden area. Because the cover is removable, it can be cleaned thoroughly. Washable Brühl fabrics go in the machine on a gentle cycle at up to 30 degrees, others to the dry cleaner. Let the cover air-dry.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?
Brühl has been making the Moule since 2003, now in four versions. What matters for a pre-owned piece: covers can be removed and renewed, mechanisms exchanged and padding replaced. The manufacturer also lists replacements for feet and cushion fillings. Brühl is a family business that has been designing and manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948. This piece, too, has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Moule need a mains connection?
No. The Moule's swivel seats, armrests, backrests and headrests are adjusted by hand, and there is no motor built in. Brühl describes the transforming functions as particularly smooth-running; changing position takes just a few simple movements.
Does the Moule feel firm or soft to sit on?
That depends on the upholstery layers, which Brühl puts together according to the model, the desired seating comfort and the type of cover. The basis is sinuous springs and high-density foam, with soft wadding on top. This makes the seat hold its shape while feeling soft on the surface.
What is a footstool used for with the Moule?
It turns another seat into a lounger. On the Moule three-seater, a footstool in front of the middle seat creates a lounge function, so that, according to Brühl, up to three people can relax. The same works at the middle seat of the corner sofas.
What can you do if the Moule's mechanism becomes stiff?
If a fitting weakens over time, Brühl says it can always be replaced, which fully restores the function. Brühl states that it has more than 30 years of experience in developing such fittings for swivel seats and rests that can be lowered.
What is the bend in the Moule's backrest for?
It is the Moule's signature feature. According to Brühl, the bend gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests independently of each other.
How do you remove the Moule's cover?
The cover is attached to the frame with hook-and-loop strips. Undo the fasteners all the way round the bottom edge and cover the hook strips straight away with loop tape so that they do not damage the fabric. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner – that is how Brühl describes it.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
