About the model

Brühl Moule – a transforming sofa since 2003

A sofa that adapts to your day: in the morning you sit upright, in the evening you lean back or put your feet up. That is why Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule with swivel seats, and Brühl has been making it since 2003. When a seat is turned 90 degrees, the armrest comes to the front and is lowered to form a footrest. The backrest can then be set to any angle, right down to horizontal. According to Brühl, the bend in the backrest already makes this adjustability visible.

Moule two-seater in yellow fabric – floor model

This Moule is a two-seater with a yellow fabric cover. It was on display in a showroom and was never used in a home. The yellow gives the sofa a strong accent of colour that stands out particularly against grey or white walls. With wood, grey and black, it creates a fresh contrast. It suits living rooms or studies and can be combined with other elements from the Moule series. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

Brühl upholsters the Moule on sinuous springs with high-density foam, with a soft layer of wadding on top. As a result, the seat holds its shape while the surface stays soft. The seat height of 42 cm is at the lower end of the usual range. The sofa needs 1.8 m of width and 90 cm of depth; leave around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front. At 82 cm high, the backrest stays low, so the sofa looks light in the room.

Elements and additions

The Moule series includes two- and three-seaters, armchairs, footstools, longchairs and corner configurations. On the three-seater, a footstool in front of the middle seat creates another lounge place. Brühl still offers the Moule. Replacement covers can be ordered through specialist retailers, and with covers made of several parts, individual parts too, as long as the fabric is available.

Caring for the fabric cover

A strong yellow can fade in direct sunlight; a spot away from the window protects the colour. Remove dust with the upholstery nozzle, and dab stains with a damp white cloth. The cover is removable. Whether it can go in the washing machine depends on the fabric quality; for washable covers, Brühl specifies a gentle cycle at up to 30 degrees.

Why a Brühl Moule floor model?

The Moule has been in Brühl's range since 2003 and is built for long use: the covers are removable and renewable, and the mechanisms can be replaced. This sofa stood on display as a floor model and was never used in a home. Brühl, a family business, has been designing and manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948. We have inspected the piece in eight stations.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Moule's swivel seat operated?

The seat is swung 90 degrees forwards. The armrest is then at the front and, when lowered, serves as a footrest. Next, the backrest and headrest can be adjusted separately – according to Brühl, it takes just a few simple movements.

Is the Moule adjusted by hand or electrically?

By hand. The seats, armrests, backrests and headrests are adjusted mechanically, with no need for a cable. Brühl developed the fittings specifically for its transforming models and describes the functions as particularly smooth-running.

What is the bend in the Moule's backrest for?

It is the Moule's signature feature. According to Brühl, the bend gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. The backrests can be adjusted independently of each other.

How do you remove the Moule's cover?

The cover is attached to the frame with hook-and-loop strips. Undo the fasteners all the way round the bottom edge and cover the hook strips straight away with loop tape so that they do not damage the fabric. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner – that is how Brühl describes it.

Does the Moule feel firm or soft to sit on?

That depends on the upholstery layers, which Brühl puts together according to the model, the desired seating comfort and the type of cover. The basis is sinuous springs and high-density foam, with soft wadding on top. This makes the seat hold its shape while feeling soft on the surface.

Can the Moule's padding be renewed later on?

Yes. According to Brühl, the padding can be replaced on every one of its seating models while the frame stays in use. Sometimes it is enough just to renew the wadding wrap – the seat then becomes softer or the padding fuller.

Can I see the piece before buying?

Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.

About the brand

All Brühl in stock

The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
