About the model
Brühl Moule – a sofa bed on castors
Watching TV with your feet up, an afternoon nap, a bed for guests: the Moule is designed for changes like these. Roland Meyer-Brühl conceived it as a transforming sofa, and Brühl has offered it since 2003. Each of the two seats is a swivel seat. Swivelled 90 degrees, the armrest comes to the front and, when lowered, serves as a footrest. You then recline the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal. Everything is operated by hand.
Moule two-seater in brown fabric
This Moule is a two-seater with a brown fabric cover, a sleep function and castors. The two swivel seats can be converted into a sleeping surface. On the castors, you can easily push the sofa to one side, for example for vacuuming or rearranging the room. The dark brown looks warm and goes well with wooden floors; with light cushions it looks less heavy. The sofa suits living rooms, studies or guest rooms. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
Brühl builds the seat on sinuous springs with high-density foam and a soft layer of wadding; the result is a seat that holds its shape with a soft surface. The seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. The sofa is 1.8 m wide and 90 cm deep. Allow around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it. In the lounge and lying positions, a Moule two-seater becomes up to 60 cm wider and 44 cm deeper, according to the current dimension sheet.
Functions and additions
For sleeping, you turn both seats into the lounge position and lower the backrests until a sleeping surface is formed. You adjust the headrests separately. The series also includes armchairs, footstools, longchairs and corner configurations. For models with removable covers such as the Moule, Brühl makes replacement covers, in leather too if you wish.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the brown fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle, as dust quickly shows on dark colours. Dab stains with a damp cloth, without rubbing. The cover is removable and fastened with hook-and-loop strips. Washable Brühl fabrics can go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 degrees; have all others dry-cleaned.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?
Brühl has offered the Moule since 2003, and its moving parts are designed to be swapped out. The mechanisms can be replaced if they no longer move smoothly. The cover and padding can also be renewed. The family business has been manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948. This keeps a pre-owned Moule usable for a long time. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Are replacement castors available for the Moule?
According to its own FAQ, Brühl offers selected spare parts such as castors and glides through specialist retailers or directly. The manufacturer says replacements for feet and cushion fillings are also available when needed.
What is the bend in the Moule's backrest for?
It is the Moule's signature feature. According to Brühl, the bend gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests independently of each other.
Does the Moule feel firm or soft to sit on?
That depends on the upholstery layers, which Brühl puts together according to the model, the desired seating comfort and the type of cover. The basis is sinuous springs and high-density foam, with soft wadding on top. This makes the seat hold its shape while feeling soft on the surface.
Can you sit on the Moule's lowered armrest?
You should not. According to Brühl, folded-down armrests are intended as a footrest or as an extension of the surface you lie on, not as a seat. Putting your full body weight on them for long periods or repeatedly can impair the mechanism.
Can just part of the Moule's cover be replaced?
With covers made of several parts, yes, provided the fabric or leather is still available. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions can also be re-covered separately while the rest of the cover stays in use. Orders are placed through Brühl specialist retailers.
Can the Moule's padding be renewed later on?
Yes. According to Brühl, the padding can be replaced on every one of its seating models while the frame stays in use. Sometimes it is enough just to renew the wadding wrap – the seat then becomes softer or the padding fuller.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
