About the model

Brühl Moule – swivel seats for sitting and lying down

Reading with your feet up, an afternoon nap, a place for guests to sleep: the Moule covers all of this in a few simple movements. It is based on the swivel seats. Turn a seat 90 degrees and the armrest comes to the front and can be lowered to form a footrest. The backrest follows, infinitely adjustable down to horizontal. Brühl sees the distinctive bend in the backrest as a reference to this adjustability. The Moule was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl and has been made since 2003.

Moule two-seater in beige fabric

This Moule two-seater is upholstered in beige fabric in the shade Sand and has chrome details. With the sleep function, the two swivel seats become a sleeping surface; during the day, it seats two. The shiny metal creates a cool contrast with the warm fabric. The sofa suits living rooms or guest rooms that occasionally host overnight visitors. A coffee table in glass or metal goes well with it too. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

Beneath the cover is a base of sinuous springs, topped with high-density foam and a soft layer of wadding. Brühl tailors this construction to the model and the desired seating comfort; the seat keeps its shape. A seat height of 42 cm is a typical figure. The two-seater needs 1.8 m along the wall and 90 cm of depth, plus around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front. In the lying position, a Moule two-seater becomes up to 60 cm wider and 44 cm deeper, according to the current dimension sheet.

Functions and additions

For overnight guests, you turn both seats 90 degrees and lower the backrests to horizontal. You can then fine-tune the headrests and backrests individually. Brühl still makes the Moule as a two- and three-seater, armchair, footstool, longchair and corner sofa. The manufacturer offers replacement covers, in leather too, as well as spare feet and glides through specialist retailers.

Caring for the fabric cover

Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle and dab stains with a damp cloth, without rubbing. The cover can be removed; washable Brühl fabrics can go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 degrees, others should be dry-cleaned. Simply wipe the chrome parts with a damp cloth and then rub them dry. Abrasive cleaners scratch the surface.

Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?

Brühl has offered the Moule since 2003 and, like all its seating, designs it to last for decades. Parts that see heavy everyday use can be replaced: covers, padding, mechanisms, feet and glides. It is made in-house in Bad Steben, where the family business has operated since 1948. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Moule adjusted by hand or electrically?

By hand. You swivel the seats and set the armrests, backrests and headrests mechanically, with no need for a cable. Brühl developed the fittings specifically for its transforming models and describes the functions as particularly smooth-running.

How is the Moule upholstered?

According to Brühl, the seat rests on sinuous springs hooked into the frame. On top are layers of high-density upholstery foam and a soft layer of wadding; for the Moule Medium, specialist retailers state a core of polyurethane foam. Brühl tailors the layers to the model, the seating comfort and the type of cover.

What can you do if the Moule's mechanism becomes stiff?

If a fitting weakens over time, Brühl says it can always be replaced, which fully restores the function. Brühl states that it has more than 30 years of experience in developing such fittings for swivel seats and rests that can be lowered.

What is the bend in the Moule's backrest for?

It is the Moule's signature feature. According to Brühl, the bend gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests independently of each other.

Can just part of the Moule's cover be replaced?

With covers made of several parts, yes, provided the fabric or leather is still available. According to Brühl, loose seat cushions can also be re-covered separately while the rest of the cover stays in use. Orders are placed through Brühl specialist retailers.

What is a footstool used for with the Moule?

It turns another seat into a lounger. On the Moule three-seater, a footstool in front of the middle seat creates a lounge function, so that, according to Brühl, up to three people can relax. The same works at the middle seat of the corner sofas.

Can I see the piece before buying?

Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.

About the brand

All Brühl in stock

The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
