Brühl Moule – the sofa that becomes a bed

A sofa on which you can sit upright, lean back to watch TV and sleep at night – that is the idea behind the Moule. Brühl has been making the model since 2003 to a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl. At its heart are the swivel seats: swivelled 90 degrees, the armrest moves to the front and becomes a footrest. You then recline the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal. The headrests can be adjusted separately, and no motor is needed.

Moule two-seater in beige fabric

This two-seater from the Moule series is upholstered in beige fabric in the shade Sand and has a sleep function. Day to day, it seats two people; for overnight guests, the two swivel seats become a sleeping surface. The warm sand beige goes well with light floors and natural wood. The sofa suits living rooms, studies or guest rooms with no permanent space for a bed. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

Beneath the upholstery foam is a sinuous-spring base, with a soft layer of wadding on top; this gives you supportive seating that holds its shape. For the current Moule Medium, specialist retailers state a seat depth of 53 cm, which is a medium depth. The seat height of 42 cm is typical. The sofa takes up 1.8 m of wall and 90 cm of depth. Leave around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front; as a bed, the sofa needs additional space to the front and the side.

Functions and additions

The sleep function is built into the two swivel seats. You swing each seat 90 degrees forwards, lower the armrest as a footrest and lay the backrest flat. Both seats together create the sleeping surface. According to Brühl, you should not sit on the lowered armrests, as they are intended as footrests. Armchairs and footstools from the series complement the sofa.

Caring for the fabric cover

Because the cover is removable, you can have it cleaned thoroughly. When removing it, Brühl advises covering the hook strips with loop tape straight away so that they do not damage the fabric. If the fabric is washable, a gentle cycle at up to 30 degrees is enough; it should be left to air-dry. For everyday care, vacuuming with the upholstery nozzle and carefully dabbing stains is all it takes.
