Brühl Moule Small – convertible sofa in a compact size

Brühl has been making the Moule since 2003, to a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl. It is intended as a convertible sofa: in a few simple moves, the swivel seats become loungers or a lying surface. Swivel a seat by 90 degrees and the armrest moves to the front, where it lowers to serve as a footrest. You then adjust the backrest and headrest separately. According to Brühl, the distinctive bend in the backrest points to precisely this adjustability. Everything is operated by hand. The Moule Small is intended for rooms where space is limited.

This two-seater is a Moule Small in blue fabric. With the sleep function, it becomes a guest bed, according to Brühl, and by day it offers two seats. Its compact format makes it a good fit for a study, a guest room or a city flat where one piece of furniture has to do several jobs. Blue brings colour into the room and goes well with white, grey and light wood. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

You sit on polyurethane foam over sinuous springs, topped with a soft layer of fleece. The seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range; according to Brühl, it can be adjusted between 42 and 44 cm on the Moule Small. The sofa needs 1.64 m along the wall and 105 cm in depth. To lower the backrests, allow up to 44 cm of space behind them, according to Brühl, and up to 30 cm to the side of each swivel seat.

Functions and additions

This is how the sofa becomes a bed: swivel both seats 90 degrees forwards and lower the armrests to form footrests. Then, according to specialist retailers, release the backrests using a loop or a button and lower them smoothly all the way to horizontal. Everything works by hand, without a motor. For small rooms, Brühl also makes the Moule Extra Small as a compact corner configuration with a footstool.

Caring for the fabric cover

For daily care, the upholstery nozzle of your vacuum cleaner is all you need. Blot spills immediately with an absorbent cloth, without rubbing. The cover is removable and, depending on the fabric quality, can be washed or needs to be dry-cleaned. After washing, it is left to air-dry rather than put in a tumble dryer, and fitted back on once dry. If you would like a different colour later on, Brühl makes a replacement cover, in leather too if you wish.

Brühl is a family-owned company from Bad Steben in Upper Franconia, founded in 1948. Design and production take place at the company's headquarters, and all products are made in Germany. The Moule has been in the range since 2003 and is still made today. The Moule Small also has removable, renewable covers, and Brühl can replace the mechanism fittings.
