Brühl Moule Medium – two swivel seats, one double bed

The Moule is a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl, and Brühl presents it in its brochure as “the original since 2003”. The design combines a sofa, a lounger and a bed in one piece of furniture. At the heart of the idea are the swivel seats: they turn by 90 degrees, bringing the armrest to the front, where it becomes a footrest. You then lower the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal if you wish. Brühl uses specially developed fittings for these movements. A characteristic feature is the bend in the backrest. Medium is the middle size, between Small and Large.

Moule Medium two-seater in green fabric

This two-seater is a Moule in the Medium version, upholstered in green fabric. It has a sleep function: according to Brühl, both swivel seats on the Moule Medium can be lowered to form a double bed. By day, the sofa seats two people, and at night it serves as a bed. Green brings colour into the room and goes well with wood and light walls. The sofa suits a living room, study or guest room. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

You sit on polyurethane foam over sinuous springs, topped with a soft layer of fleece. On the current Moule Medium, the seat depth is a good half metre, according to specialist retailers. The seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. The sofa needs 1.8 m along the wall and 90 cm in depth. For the lounge and lying positions, Brühl allows for up to 44 cm of extra depth to the rear and up to 30 cm to the side of each swivel seat.

Functions and additions

One seat is all it takes for the lounge position: swivel it 90 degrees forwards and its armrest becomes a footrest. You adjust the backrest to any angle and the headrest separately. For the bed, you convert both seats in the same way, by hand and without a motor. The Moule Medium is also available as a three-seater, where a footstool in front of the middle seat creates a third place to lounge.

Caring for the fabric cover

For daily care, the upholstery nozzle of your vacuum cleaner is all you need. Blot spills immediately with an absorbent cloth, without rubbing. The cover is removable and, depending on the fabric quality, can be washed or needs to be dry-cleaned. After washing, it is left to air-dry rather than put in a tumble dryer, and fitted back on once dry. Direct sunlight can fade colours.
