About the model

Brühl Moule Large – two-seater in a large format

Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule, and Brühl has had it in its range since 2003. The idea: a sofa you can sit on, relax on and even sleep on. Its hallmark is the bend in the backrest. According to Brühl, it signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. The seat moves too: turn it by 90 degrees and the armrest comes to the front, where it lowers to form a footrest. The backrest can then be lowered to any angle, all the way to horizontal. According to Brühl, the Moule Large looks light and appears to float, despite its size.

Moule Large two-seater in grey leather – floor model

This two-seater is a Moule Large with a grey leather cover and offers two seats. It was on display and has never been used in a home. Grey leather looks understated and combines well with wood, wool and metal. The generous format comes into its own in living rooms where the sofa can take up space, for example in front of a long wall.

Seating comfort and space

You sit on polyurethane foam over sinuous springs; Brühl uses high-density foams that keep their shape. With a seat height of 42 cm, the sofa is within the usual range, towards the lower end. The two-seater needs two metres along the wall and 90 cm in depth. According to Brühl, the Moule's lowered backrests extend up to 44 cm to the rear. A walkway of around 60 to 80 cm in front of the sofa is comfortable.

Elements and additions

The Moule series includes two-seaters and three-seaters, armchairs, footstools, longchairs and corner configurations. According to Brühl, the sizes can be combined with each other. Typical of the series are swivel seats whose armrests become footrests, and backrests that adjust to any angle, with a separately adjustable headrest. For the Moule Large, Brühl also offers a matching coffee table and a slide-under table.

Caring for the leather cover

Leather is best cared for dry: remove dust with a soft cloth and blot spills immediately with an absorbent cloth. Once or twice a year, treat the leather with a care product suited to the type of leather. Direct sunlight and nearby radiators dry it out. The Moule's leather cover is also removable and can be renewed.

Why a Brühl Moule Large floor model?

Brühl is a family-owned company from Bad Steben in Upper Franconia and has been making upholstered furniture in Germany since 1948. This Moule Large was on display as a floor model and does not come from a household. The covers can be removed and renewed, in fabric instead of leather if you wish. We have inspected this piece in eight stations.

Frequently asked questions

How do you operate the Moule's swivel seat?

First, swivel the seat by 90 degrees until the armrest is at the front, and lower the armrest to form a footrest. Then, according to specialist retailers, release the backrest using a loop or a button and adjust it to any angle. Finally, adjust the headrest, all by hand.

How does the Moule Large differ from the Medium and Small?

Mainly in size: according to Brühl, the Large has particularly generous dimensions, the Small and Extra Small are compact, and the Medium is in between. All sizes can be combined with each other and have removable, renewable covers.

Which elements does the Moule series include?

Brühl makes the Moule as a sofa with two or three seats, as an armchair, footstool and longchair, and as a corner configuration. The longchair comes in a width of 98 or 128 cm. There are also side shelves with a wooden surface or covered in fabric or leather.

What does the bend in the Moule's backrest mean?

It is the hallmark of the design. According to Brühl, it gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time indicates that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests of the individual seats separately.

Where can you get a replacement cover for the Moule?

You order replacement covers through a Brühl retail partner. Brühl makes them to order, and you can fit them yourself. With multi-part covers, partial replacement is also possible as long as the fabric or leather is still available.

How long has the Moule been around?

Brühl has offered the Moule since 2003; the brochure calls it “the original since 2003”. Since then, the series has grown to include, among others, the generous Large version and the particularly compact Extra Small.

Can I see the piece before buying?

Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.

About the brand

All Brühl in stock

The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
