About the model
Brühl Moule Large – plenty of room to sit and lie down
The Moule is a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl, and Brühl presents it in its brochure as “the original since 2003”. The design combines a sofa, a lounger and a bed in one piece of furniture. At the heart of the idea are the swivel seats: they turn by 90 degrees, bringing the armrest to the front, where it becomes a footrest. You then lower the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal if you wish. Brühl uses specially developed fittings for these movements. A characteristic feature is the bend in the backrest. According to Brühl, the Moule Large looks light and appears to float, despite its size.
Moule Large two-seater in blue leather – floor model
This two-seater is a Moule Large with a cover of blue leather. It was on display and has never been used in a home. With the sleep function, the two swivel seats become a lying surface which, according to Brühl, is particularly generous on the Large. Blue leather is a bold choice of colour that combines well with grey, white and light wood. The sofa suits living rooms with enough space around the seating area.
Seating comfort and space
Beneath the seat are sinuous springs, topped by polyurethane foam padding with a soft fleece layer. According to specialist retailers, the back cushions are quilted into chambers, so they keep their shape. The seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. The sofa needs two metres along the wall and 90 cm in depth. In the lounge or lying position, the backrests extend up to 44 cm to the rear, according to Brühl. The swivel seats also need a little room at the sides.
Functions and additions
This is how the sofa becomes a bed: swivel both seats 90 degrees forwards and lower the armrests to form footrests. Then, according to specialist retailers, release the backrests using a loop or a button and lower them smoothly all the way to horizontal. Everything works by hand, without a motor. Brühl offers the Moule Large with optional side shelf surfaces that become usable in the lounge position.
Caring for the leather cover
Remove dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Dab stains with a slightly damp cloth, without rubbing. Once or twice a year, the leather needs a suitable care product to keep it supple. Do not place the sofa in direct sunlight or next to a radiator. Leather cannot be washed, but Brühl can replace the removable cover later on.
Why a Brühl Moule Large floor model?
Behind the Moule Large is Brühl, founded in 1948 and still a family-owned company manufacturing in Germany today. Brühl designs its seating for decades of use. As a floor model, this sofa has only ever been on display. Removable covers and replaceable fittings keep it usable in the long term too. This piece, too, has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Moule Large differ from the Medium and Small?
Mainly in size: according to Brühl, the Large has particularly generous dimensions, the Small and Extra Small are compact, and the Medium is in between. All sizes can be combined with each other and have removable, renewable covers.
What can you do if the Moule's mechanism becomes stiff?
Brühl replaces mechanism fittings that no longer move smoothly; according to Brühl, the function is then restored. Spare parts such as castors or glides are available from Brühl specialist retailers or directly from the manufacturer.
How do you adjust the Moule's headrest?
First set the backrest to the position you want, then adjust the headrest separately. According to specialist retailers, simply pushing or pulling the headrest is enough. This lets you adapt the support for your head and neck to a sitting or lying position.
Can you sit on the Moule's lowered armrest?
It is best not to. Brühl intends the folded-out armrests to be used as a footrest or an extension of the lying surface, not as a seat. Do not put your full body weight on them, as this can strain the mechanism over time.
Where can you get a replacement cover for the Moule?
You order replacement covers through a Brühl retail partner. Brühl makes them to order, and you can fit them yourself. With multi-part covers, partial replacement is also possible as long as the fabric or leather is still available.
What is the idea behind the Moule?
The Moule combines a sofa, a lounger and a bed in one piece of furniture. In a few simple moves, the swivel seats become loungers or a lying surface. According to Brühl, the range extends from a stand-alone sofa to versatile corner configurations.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
