Brühl Moule Large – convertible sofa in a large format

Brühl has been making the Moule since 2003, to a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl. It is intended as a convertible sofa: in a few simple moves, the swivel seats become loungers or a lying surface. Swivel a seat by 90 degrees and the armrest moves to the front, where it lowers to serve as a footrest. You then adjust the backrest and headrest separately. According to Brühl, the distinctive bend in the backrest points to precisely this adjustability. Everything is operated by hand. The Moule Large is the generously sized version of the series.

Moule Large two-seater in grey fabric

This two-seater is a Moule Large with a grey fabric cover and a sleep function. In a few simple moves, the two swivel seats become a lying surface which, according to Brühl, is particularly generous on the Large. By day, the sofa offers two seats. The neutral grey goes with wood, metal and colourful cushions. The sofa suits living rooms where you need room to lie down as well as to sit. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

You sit on polyurethane foam over sinuous springs, topped with a soft layer of fleece. Brühl relies on high-density foams for a seat that holds its shape. With a seat height of 42 cm, the sofa is within the usual range. It needs two metres along the wall and 90 cm in depth. To lower the backrests, allow up to 44 cm of space behind them, according to Brühl. A walkway of 60 to 80 cm in front of the sofa is comfortable.

Functions and additions

One seat is all it takes for the lounge position: swivel it 90 degrees forwards and its armrest becomes a footrest. You adjust the backrest to any angle and the headrest separately. For the bed, you convert both seats in the same way, by hand and without a motor. Brühl offers the Moule Large with optional side shelf surfaces that become usable in the lounge position.

Caring for the fabric cover

Regular vacuuming keeps the fabric fresh. Dab stains with a damp cloth. You can take the cover off: undo the hook-and-loop fasteners at the bottom and pull it off upwards, starting from one corner. Whether it is washed or dry-cleaned depends on the fabric. If you would like a different colour later on, Brühl makes a replacement cover, in leather too if you wish.

Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule Large?

Behind the Moule is Brühl, a family-owned company from Upper Franconia founded in 1948. Design and production are based at the company's headquarters in Bad Steben. The Moule Large shares the construction of the whole series: covers can be removed and renewed, and Brühl can replace the mechanism fittings. As a result, a pre-owned Moule Large is also built for many years of use. This piece, too, has been inspected in eight stations.
