About the model
Brühl Moule – corner sofa with longchair
Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule as a sofa that transforms in a few simple moves; Brühl has been making it since 2003. At the heart of the design is the swivel seat: turn it by 90 degrees and the armrest comes to the front to become a footrest. You then lower the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal if you wish, and adjust the headrest separately. Its hallmark is the bend in the backrest, which, according to Brühl, points to this adjustability. On the corner configurations made up of a longchair and an add-on sofa, the swivel seat is at the outer end of the add-on sofa.
Moule corner sofa in black fabric
This Moule is a corner sofa with a black fabric cover. Seen from the front, the corner is on the left, and it offers three seats in total. Black fabric looks calm and creates a clear contrast in light rooms. Cushions in strong colours stand out well against it. The corner sofa suits living rooms where a corner of the room is to become a shared seating area. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
The seats rest on sinuous springs, with polyurethane foam and a soft layer of fleece on top. Brühl relies on high-density foams so that the seat keeps its shape. With a seat depth of a good half metre and a seat height of 42 cm, you sit in a standard position. The corner sofa takes up around 2.7 m along the long side and 1.96 m on the corner side. A walkway of 60 to 80 cm in front of the sofa is comfortable.
Elements and additions
Brühl builds the Moule corner configurations from a longchair, 98 or 128 cm wide, and an add-on sofa. Typical of the series are the swivel seat at the outer end of the add-on sofa, individually adjustable backrests and the sliding side armrest on the longchair. The corner sofa can be complemented with a footstool or a Moule armchair. You can order replacement covers, including in other colours, through Brühl specialist retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
Remove dust and crumbs with a vacuum cleaner and a soft upholstery nozzle. Treat stains immediately: dab, do not rub. The Moule's cover can be removed for cleaning. Brühl recommends covering the hook tape with loop tape when you do this, so the fabric is not damaged. Lint shows up more quickly on dark fabric; a lint brush helps.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?
Brühl has been making upholstered furniture in Bad Steben since 1948, as a family-owned company manufacturing in Germany. According to Brühl, its seating is designed for decades of use. A pre-owned Moule is the same model that Brühl still makes today, with removable covers and replaceable fittings. Switching from fabric to leather is also possible. We have inspected this piece in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What does the bend in the Moule's backrest mean?
It is the hallmark of the design. According to Brühl, it gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time indicates that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests of the individual seats separately.
Can the Moule be added to later?
Yes. Brühl still has the Moule in its range and sells armchairs, footstools and longchairs through its retail partners. According to Brühl, the sizes can be combined, so elements from a different Moule version will also match.
Where can you get a replacement cover for the Moule?
You order replacement covers through a Brühl retail partner. Brühl makes them to order, and you can fit them yourself. With multi-part covers, partial replacement is also possible as long as the fabric or leather is still available.
What is the sliding side armrest on the Moule longchair for?
It slides forwards and then becomes an extra backrest. According to Brühl, this lets the longchair offer comfortable back support for two people. Its backrest can also be lowered, for example when you use the corner sofa as a lying surface.
How is the Moule's upholstery constructed?
According to specialist retailers, you sit on polyurethane foam over a base of sinuous springs. Brühl tops its upholstery with a soft layer of fleece. The back cushions are quilted into chambers, so they keep their shape.
What is the difference between the Moule Small, Medium and Large?
Mainly the size: according to Brühl, the lying surface measures 140 x 204 cm on the Medium and 164 x 216 cm on the Large. The Small and the newer Extra Small are the compact versions. All sizes can be combined with each other.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
