About the model
Brühl Moule – a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl
The Moule is a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl, and Brühl presents it in its brochure as “the original since 2003”. The design combines a sofa, a lounger and a bed in one piece of furniture. At the heart of the idea are the swivel seats: they turn by 90 degrees, bringing the armrest to the front, where it becomes a footrest. You then lower the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal if you wish. Brühl uses specially developed fittings for these movements. A characteristic feature is the bend in the backrest. On the corner configurations made up of a longchair and an add-on sofa, the swivel seat is at the outer end of the add-on sofa.
Moule corner sofa in grey fabric – floor model
This Moule is a corner sofa with four seats, upholstered in grey fabric 2813, which can be washed according to the product information. Seen from the front, the corner is on the right. The sofa was on display and has never been used in a home. Its length makes room for the whole family or a group of guests. It suits large living rooms where several people often sit together.
Seating comfort and space
You sit on foam padding over sinuous springs, topped with a soft layer of fleece. The seat is a good half metre deep, and the seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. At around 3.5 m long and 1.96 m on the corner side, this corner sofa is intended for large rooms. Leave a walkway of 60 to 80 cm in front of the sofa. According to Brühl, the Moule's lowered backrests extend up to 44 cm to the rear.
Elements and additions
The Moule series includes sofas with two or three seats, armchairs, footstools, longchairs and corner configurations. According to Brühl, the sizes can be combined with each other. On the corner sofas, there is a swivel seat at the outer end of the add-on sofa, and all backrests can be adjusted individually. A footstool at the middle seat creates another place to lounge; Brühl sells it through specialist retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
According to the product information, the cover of this piece is washable. Brühl recommends a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C and no tumble dryer. For everyday care, vacuuming with the upholstery nozzle is enough; dab stains with a damp cloth, without rubbing. A washable cover is practical when the sofa sees a lot of use in everyday family life.
Why a Brühl Moule floor model?
Brühl has been making its furniture in Germany since 1948, at its headquarters in Bad Steben in Upper Franconia. A floor model comes from a display, not from someone's home. On top of that, Brühl can renew the Moule's covers and mechanism fittings later on, and replacement covers are available from specialist retailers. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How do you remove the Moule's cover for washing?
Undo the hook-and-loop fasteners at the bottom of the sofa and cover the hook tape with loop tape. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner. After washing, fit it back on once it is dry, and only then remove the loop tape.
Which elements does the Moule series include?
Brühl makes the Moule as a sofa with two or three seats, as an armchair, footstool and longchair, and as a corner configuration. The longchair comes in a width of 98 or 128 cm. There are also side shelves with a wooden surface or covered in fabric or leather.
What is the sliding side armrest on the Moule longchair for?
It slides forwards and then becomes an extra backrest. According to Brühl, this lets the longchair offer comfortable back support for two people. Its backrest can also be lowered, for example when you use the corner sofa as a lying surface.
What is a footstool used for with the Moule?
The footstool extends the lounge function. Placed in front of the middle seat of a three-seater or a corner configuration, it lets up to three people relax in the lounge position, according to Brühl. In front of a two-seater, it serves as a footrest or an extra seat.
What is the idea behind the Moule?
The Moule combines a sofa, a lounger and a bed in one piece of furniture. In a few simple moves, the swivel seats become loungers or a lying surface. According to Brühl, the range extends from a stand-alone sofa to versatile corner configurations.
What is it like to sit on the Moule?
The seat holds its shape and you sit fairly upright: Brühl uses high-density upholstery foams on sinuous springs. According to specialist retailers, the seat depth of the Moule Medium is around 53 cm, a common depth for sofas. If you would rather lie back, swivel the seat into the lounge position.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Cologne. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
