About the model
Brühl Moule – spacious corner sofa with swivel seat
Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule, and Brühl has had it in its range since 2003. The idea: a sofa you can sit on, relax on and even sleep on. Its hallmark is the bend in the backrest. According to Brühl, it signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. The seat moves too: turn it by 90 degrees and the armrest comes to the front, where it lowers to form a footrest. The backrest can then be lowered to any angle, all the way to horizontal. On the corner configurations made up of a longchair and an add-on sofa, the swivel seat is at the outer end of the add-on sofa.
Moule corner sofa in grey fabric
This Moule is a corner sofa with a grey fabric cover and a sleep function. Seen from the front, the corner is on the left. It seats three, and when you have guests, you can lower the backrests to turn the sofa into a place to sleep. The neutral grey combines well with wood, metal and cushions in strong colours. The corner sofa suits open-plan living areas and spacious living rooms with a free corner. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
You sit on polyurethane foam over sinuous springs, topped with a soft layer of fleece. The seat is a good half metre deep, and the seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. At three metres long and two metres on the corner side, this corner sofa needs a spacious room. To lower the backrests, allow up to 44 cm of space behind them, according to Brühl, and a walkway of around 60 to 80 cm in front of the sofa.
Functions and additions
Here is how to use the functions: swivel the outer seat of the add-on sofa 90 degrees forwards and lower the armrest to form a footrest. Each backrest is adjusted individually, and the longchair's side armrest slides forwards to act as an extra backrest. Lower all the backrests and you get a flat lying surface. A matching Moule armchair with its own swivel seat is sold through Brühl specialist retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
For daily care, the upholstery nozzle of your vacuum cleaner is all you need. Blot spills immediately with an absorbent cloth, without rubbing. The cover is removable and, depending on the fabric quality, can be washed or needs to be dry-cleaned. After washing, it is left to air-dry rather than put in a tumble dryer, and fitted back on once dry.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?
Brühl was founded in Bad Steben in 1948 and is still family-owned today; its furniture is made in Germany. The company designs its seating for decades of use. For the Moule, this means the covers are removable and renewable, and switching from fabric to leather is also possible. Brühl can replace the padding and mechanism fittings. We have inspected this piece in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Can you sit on the Moule's lowered armrest?
It is best not to. Brühl intends the folded-out armrests to be used as a footrest or an extension of the lying surface, not as a seat. Do not put your full body weight on them, as this can strain the mechanism over time.
How does the Moule corner sofa become a lying surface?
According to Brühl, the corner sofa becomes a flat lying surface when you lower all the backrests. You adjust the backrests individually and to any angle, by hand and without a motor. Leave a little space between the sofa and the wall, as the lowered backrests need room behind them.
Where can you get a replacement cover for the Moule?
You order replacement covers through a Brühl retail partner. Brühl makes them to order, and you can fit them yourself. With multi-part covers, partial replacement is also possible as long as the fabric or leather is still available.
Which elements does the Moule series include?
Brühl makes the Moule as a sofa with two or three seats, as an armchair, footstool and longchair, and as a corner configuration. The longchair comes in a width of 98 or 128 cm. There are also side shelves with a wooden surface or covered in fabric or leather.
What is it like to sit on the Moule?
The seat holds its shape and you sit fairly upright: Brühl uses high-density upholstery foams on sinuous springs. According to specialist retailers, the seat depth of the Moule Medium is around 53 cm, a common depth for sofas. If you would rather lie back, swivel the seat into the lounge position.
How do you clean the Moule's fabric cover?
Undo the hook-and-loop fasteners at the bottom of the sofa and cover the hook tape with loop tape. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner. Depending on the fabric, it is dry-cleaned or washed on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, but never tumble-dried.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
