Brühl Moule – corner sofa with sleep function

Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule as a sofa that transforms in a few simple moves; Brühl has been making it since 2003. At the heart of the design is the swivel seat: turn it by 90 degrees and the armrest comes to the front to become a footrest. You then lower the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal if you wish, and adjust the headrest separately. Its hallmark is the bend in the backrest, which, according to Brühl, points to this adjustability. Brühl puts its corner configurations together from a longchair and an add-on sofa.

Moule corner sofa in brown and grey fabric – floor model

This Moule is a corner sofa with a fabric cover in brown and grey. It was on display and has never been used in a home. Seen from the front, the corner is on the right, and it seats three. With the sleep function, the sofa becomes a place to sleep when you have guests. Together, brown and grey look warm and understated at the same time. The corner sofa suits living rooms with a free corner where guests stay overnight from time to time.

Seating comfort and space

Sinuous springs do their work beneath the polyurethane foam padding, and according to specialist retailers, the back cushions are quilted into chambers. Brühl relies on high-density foams so that the seat keeps its shape. A seat depth of a good half metre and a seat height of 42 cm make for a standard sitting position. The corner sofa needs around 2.7 m along the wall and 1.96 m on the corner side. With the backrests lowered, up to 44 cm is added to the rear, according to Brühl.

Functions and additions

For sleeping, lower all the backrests until the corner sofa forms a flat lying surface, according to Brühl. For relaxing, the swivel seat at the outer end of the add-on sofa is all you need: swivel the seat 90 degrees, lower the armrest into a footrest and recline the backrest. The longchair's sliding side armrest serves as an extra backrest. You can order replacement covers, including in other colours, through Brühl specialist retailers.

Caring for the fabric cover

Regular vacuuming keeps the fabric fresh. Dab stains with a damp cloth. You can take the cover off: undo the hook-and-loop fasteners at the bottom and pull it off upwards, starting from one corner. Whether it is washed or dry-cleaned depends on the fabric. Direct sunlight can fade colours.
