About the model
Brühl Moule – the corner sofa that becomes a bed
The Moule is a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl, and Brühl presents it in its brochure as “the original since 2003”. The design combines a sofa, a lounger and a bed in one piece of furniture. At the heart of the idea are the swivel seats: they turn by 90 degrees, bringing the armrest to the front, where it becomes a footrest. You then lower the backrest to any angle, right down to horizontal if you wish. Brühl uses specially developed fittings for these movements. A characteristic feature is the bend in the backrest. For the corner version, Brühl combines a longchair with an add-on sofa, with the longchair on the right or left as preferred.
Moule corner sofa in grey fabric
This Moule is a corner sofa in grey fabric with a sleep function. Seen from the front, the corner is on the right. The sofa offers three seats and can be converted into a lying surface when needed, so guests can stay overnight without an extra bed. Grey is a calm base colour that goes well with colourful cushions and throws. The corner sofa suits living rooms and open-plan living areas with a free corner. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
The seats rest on sinuous springs, with polyurethane foam and a soft layer of fleece on top. This gives you a seat that holds its shape, and with a seat depth of a good half metre, you sit fairly upright. The seat height of 42 cm is standard. The corner sofa takes up around 2.7 m along the long side and 1.96 m on the corner side. If you lower the backrests, you need up to 44 cm of space behind them, according to Brühl; at the side of the swivel seat, allow up to 30 cm more.
Functions and additions
The Moule is operated by hand. On the add-on sofa, the outer seat turns by 90 degrees, bringing the armrest to the front, where it lowers to serve as a footrest. According to specialist retailers, you release the backrests using a loop or a button and lower them to any angle, down to a flat lying surface if you wish. According to Brühl, a Moule footstool at the middle seat turns that seat into a lounger as well.
Caring for the fabric cover
Remove dust and crumbs with a vacuum cleaner and a soft upholstery nozzle. Treat stains immediately: dab, do not rub. The Moule's cover can be removed for cleaning. Brühl recommends covering the hook tape with loop tape when you do this, so the fabric is not damaged. Washable covers go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?
Behind the Moule is Brühl, a family-owned company from Upper Franconia founded in 1948. Design and production are based at the company's headquarters in Bad Steben. The way it is built makes a good case for buying pre-owned: Brühl crafts its wooden frames from solid beech, covers and padding can be renewed, and mechanism fittings can be replaced. On top of that, it is a design Brühl has been making since 2003. This piece, too, has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Moule corner sofa become a lying surface?
According to Brühl, the corner sofa becomes a flat lying surface when you lower all the backrests. You adjust the backrests individually and to any angle, by hand and without a motor. Leave a little space between the sofa and the wall, as the lowered backrests need room behind them.
What is the sliding side armrest on the Moule longchair for?
It slides forwards and then becomes an extra backrest. According to Brühl, this lets the longchair offer comfortable back support for two people. Its backrest can also be lowered, for example when you use the corner sofa as a lying surface.
What is it like to sit on the Moule?
The seat holds its shape and you sit fairly upright: Brühl uses high-density upholstery foams on sinuous springs. According to specialist retailers, the seat depth of the Moule Medium is around 53 cm, a common depth for sofas. If you would rather lie back, swivel the seat into the lounge position.
What is a footstool used for with the Moule?
The footstool extends the lounge function. Placed in front of the middle seat of a three-seater or a corner configuration, it lets up to three people relax in the lounge position, according to Brühl. In front of a two-seater, it serves as a footrest or an extra seat.
What is the idea behind the Moule?
The Moule combines a sofa, a lounger and a bed in one piece of furniture. In a few simple moves, the swivel seats become loungers or a lying surface. According to Brühl, the range extends from a stand-alone sofa to versatile corner configurations.
Can the Moule's cover be removed?
Yes, all Moule versions have removable and renewable covers, in fabric as well as leather. The cover is attached to the frame with hook-and-loop strips. According to Brühl, a replacement cover also lets you switch from fabric to leather or vice versa.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
