About the model
Brühl Moule – convertible sofa since 2003
Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule, and Brühl has had it in its range since 2003. The idea: a sofa you can sit on, relax on and even sleep on. Its hallmark is the bend in the backrest. According to Brühl, it signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. The seat moves too: turn it by 90 degrees and the armrest comes to the front, where it lowers to form a footrest. The backrest can then be lowered to any angle, all the way to horizontal. For the corner version, Brühl combines a longchair with an add-on sofa, with the longchair on the right or left as preferred.
Moule corner sofa in black thick leather
This Moule is a corner sofa with a cover of black thick leather. Seen from the front, the corner is on the right, and it seats three. The base is fitted with castors. This makes it easier to pull the sofa away from the wall, for example for cleaning or rearranging. Black leather has a calm look and works with many wall colours. The corner sofa suits living rooms with a free corner. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
You sit on polyurethane foam over sinuous springs, topped with a soft layer of fleece. The seat is a good half metre deep, and with a seat height of 42 cm, the sofa is within the usual range. The corner sofa takes up around 2.7 m along the wall and 1.96 m on the corner side. According to Brühl, the Moule's lowered backrests extend up to 44 cm to the rear; the castors make it easier to pull the sofa forward for this. A walkway of 60 to 80 cm in front of the sofa is comfortable.
Elements and additions
Brühl builds the Moule corner configurations from a longchair, 98 or 128 cm wide, and an add-on sofa. Typical of the series are the swivel seat at the outer end of the add-on sofa, individually adjustable backrests and the sliding side armrest on the longchair. The corner sofa can be complemented with a footstool or a Moule armchair. Spare parts such as castors or glides are available from Brühl specialist retailers.
Caring for the leather cover
Remove dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Dab stains with a slightly damp cloth, without rubbing. Once or twice a year, the thick leather needs a suitable care product to keep it supple. Do not place the sofa in direct sunlight or next to a radiator. The Moule's leather cover is also removable and can be renewed.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?
Brühl is a family-owned company from Bad Steben in Upper Franconia, founded in 1948. Design and production take place at the company's headquarters, and all products are made in Germany. The Moule has been in the range since 2003 and is still made today. Brühl can renew covers, padding and mechanism fittings; feet, castors and glides are available as spare parts. As a result, a pre-owned Moule can be used for a long time to come. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What are the castors on the Moule for?
According to specialist retailers, castors make it easier to pull the Moule away from the wall, for example before you lower the backrests. Brühl also offers the base in this version. Replacement castors are available from Brühl specialist retailers.
What can you do if the Moule's mechanism becomes stiff?
Brühl replaces mechanism fittings that no longer move smoothly; according to Brühl, the function is then restored. Spare parts such as castors or glides are available from Brühl specialist retailers or directly from the manufacturer.
Which elements does the Moule series include?
Brühl makes the Moule as a sofa with two or three seats, as an armchair, footstool and longchair, and as a corner configuration. The longchair comes in a width of 98 or 128 cm. There are also side shelves with a wooden surface or covered in fabric or leather.
Where can you get a replacement cover for the Moule?
You order replacement covers through a Brühl retail partner. Brühl makes them to order, and you can fit them yourself. With multi-part covers, partial replacement is also possible as long as the fabric or leather is still available.
What does the bend in the Moule's backrest mean?
It is the hallmark of the design. According to Brühl, it gives the seating elements a relaxed, dynamic look and at the same time indicates that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. You adjust the backrests of the individual seats separately.
What is it like to sit on the Moule?
The seat holds its shape and you sit fairly upright: Brühl uses high-density upholstery foams on sinuous springs. According to specialist retailers, the seat depth of the Moule Medium is around 53 cm, a common depth for sofas. If you would rather lie back, swivel the seat into the lounge position.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
