About the model
Brühl Moule – corner sofa with swivel seat and longchair
Brühl has been making the Moule since 2003, to a design by Roland Meyer-Brühl. It is intended as a convertible sofa: in a few simple moves, the swivel seats become loungers or a lying surface. Swivel a seat by 90 degrees and the armrest moves to the front, where it lowers to serve as a footrest. You then adjust the backrest and headrest separately. According to Brühl, the distinctive bend in the backrest points to precisely this adjustability. Everything is operated by hand. Brühl puts its corner configurations together from a longchair and an add-on sofa.
Moule corner sofa in beige leather
This Moule is a corner sofa with a sleep function, upholstered in beige leather. Seen from the front, the corner is on the right. It seats three, and with the backrests lowered, the sofa becomes a lying surface for overnight guests. The light leather combines well with wood, wool and linen. The corner sofa suits living rooms that occasionally double as a guest room. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
You sit on polyurethane foam over sinuous springs; Brühl relies on high-density foams for a seat that holds its shape. The seat depth of a good half metre allows you to sit upright, and you can put your legs up on the longchair. The seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. The corner sofa takes up around 2.7 m along the long side and 1.96 m on the corner side. With the backrests lowered, it extends up to 44 cm further back, according to Brühl.
Functions and additions
Here is how to use the functions: swivel the outer seat of the add-on sofa 90 degrees forwards and lower the armrest to form a footrest. Each backrest is adjusted individually, and the longchair's side armrest slides forwards to act as an extra backrest. Lower all the backrests and you get a flat lying surface. According to Brühl, a Moule footstool at the middle seat turns that seat into a lounger as well.
Caring for the leather cover
Remove dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Dab stains with a slightly damp cloth, without rubbing. Once or twice a year, the leather needs a suitable care product to keep it supple. Do not place the sofa in direct sunlight or next to a radiator. With light leather, watch out for new dark jeans, as their dye can rub off.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Moule?
Brühl has been making upholstered furniture in Bad Steben since 1948, as a family-owned company manufacturing in Germany. According to Brühl, its seating is designed for decades of use. On the Moule, this shows in the removable covers and replaceable mechanism fittings. With multi-part covers, individual parts can also be replaced, according to Brühl, as long as the leather is still available. We have inspected this piece in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Moule corner sofa become a lying surface?
According to Brühl, the corner sofa becomes a flat lying surface when you lower all the backrests. You adjust the backrests individually and to any angle, by hand and without a motor. Leave a little space between the sofa and the wall, as the lowered backrests need room behind them.
Can the Moule's leather cover be washed?
No, leather should not be washed. However, the Moule's leather cover is removable, and Brühl makes replacement covers in leather or fabric to order. For everyday care, a soft cloth and a suitable care product once or twice a year are all you need.
How is the Moule's upholstery constructed?
According to specialist retailers, you sit on polyurethane foam over a base of sinuous springs. Brühl tops its upholstery with a soft layer of fleece. The back cushions are quilted into chambers, so they keep their shape.
How do you adjust the Moule's headrest?
First set the backrest to the position you want, then adjust the headrest separately. According to specialist retailers, simply pushing or pulling the headrest is enough. This lets you adapt the support for your head and neck to a sitting or lying position.
Where can you get a replacement cover for the Moule?
You order replacement covers through a Brühl retail partner. Brühl makes them to order, and you can fit them yourself. With multi-part covers, partial replacement is also possible as long as the fabric or leather is still available.
How long has the Moule been around?
Brühl has offered the Moule since 2003; the brochure calls it “the original since 2003”. Since then, the series has grown to include, among others, the generous Large version and the particularly compact Extra Small.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
