Brühl Moule – the sofa that becomes a bed

Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Moule, and Brühl has had it in its range since 2003. The idea: a sofa you can sit on, relax on and even sleep on. Its hallmark is the bend in the backrest. According to Brühl, it signals that the backrest can be adjusted flexibly. The seat moves too: turn it by 90 degrees and the armrest comes to the front, where it lowers to form a footrest. The backrest can then be lowered to any angle, all the way to horizontal. On the two-seater, this works on both seats.

Moule two-seater in grey fabric

This two-seater from the Moule series is upholstered in grey fabric and has a sleep function. In a few simple moves, the two swivel seats become a lying surface, and the next morning a sofa again. By day it seats two; at night it gives guests a place to sleep. This makes it a good fit for a guest room, a study or a smaller living room with no space for an extra bed. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

You sit on polyurethane foam over sinuous springs, topped with a soft layer of fleece. On the current Moule Medium, the seat is a good half metre deep, according to specialist retailers, and lets you sit upright with your back supported. With a seat height of 42 cm, the Moule is within the usual range, towards the lower end. The two-seater needs 1.8 m along the wall and 90 cm in depth. If you lower the backrests, you need up to 44 cm of space behind them, according to Brühl, and up to 30 cm to the side of each swivel seat.

Functions and additions

One seat is all it takes for the lounge position: swivel it 90 degrees forwards and its armrest becomes a footrest. You adjust the backrest to any angle and the headrest separately. For the bed, you convert both seats in the same way, by hand and without a motor. Brühl sells armchairs and footstools from the same series through its retail partners.

Caring for the fabric cover

Vacuum the fabric regularly using an upholstery nozzle. Dab stains straight away with a damp, light-coloured cloth, without rubbing. The cover is attached to the frame with hook-and-loop strips and can be removed. Whether it can go in the washing machine or needs to be dry-cleaned depends on the fabric quality.
