About the model
Brühl Fourtwo – compact corner sofa that transforms
The Fourtwo was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl, and according to Stylepark the compact version dates from 2009. In 2021, Brühl introduced the soft version. Both consist of a longchair and a swivel sofa and combine a sofa, lounging area and guest bed in a limited space. The compact version feels pleasantly firmer and, with its smooth surfaces, has a clean-cut look. The soft version has soft, relaxed upholstery. Each version has its own matching set of cushions, and the base is available in metal or wood.
Fourtwo corner sofa in grey fabric
This Fourtwo is a corner sofa with a grey fabric cover. The longchair forms the corner on the left, seen from the front, and the swivel sofa joins it on the right. Grey is a calm base for cushions and throws in strong colours. With four seats, the corner sofa suits families, the living room or a spacious study. The removable fabric covers make it practical for everyday life, even with children.
Seating comfort and space
Depending on the version, the upholstery is soft and relaxed (soft) or pleasantly firmer (compact). Specialist retailers describe the construction as a polyurethane foam core over a sinuous spring base. At 43 cm, the seat height is within the usual range. The corner sofa needs around 2.6 m along one wall and 1.85 m along the other. According to the dimension sheet, the depth grows to up to 210 cm depending on the position, for example when used as a bed.
Functions and additions
This is how the Fourtwo becomes a bed: turn the swivel sofa through 90 degrees until it stands parallel to the longchair. Together, they form a sleeping surface of 150 × 210 cm. Everything is done by hand, without a motor. Brühl offers headrests and two table modules as options. A table under the swivel sofa is revealed as soon as the sofa stands parallel to the longchair.
Caring for the fabric cover
Because the Fourtwo's covers are removable, Brühl says that even families with small children can choose light fabrics. The cover is released at the hook-and-loop strips along the bottom edge. Washable fabrics can take a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, and the rest are dry-cleaned. For everyday care, vacuuming with the upholstery nozzle is enough, and stains can be dabbed off with a damp cloth.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Fourtwo?
Brühl has been making seating in its workshop in Bad Steben since 1948, with much of the work done by hand. The company has more than 30 years of experience with fittings for convertible models such as the Fourtwo. If a fitting wears, it can be replaced, and the covers are removable and replaceable. This keeps a pre-owned Fourtwo usable for a long time. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What extras are available for the Fourtwo?
Optional extras include headrests and two table modules: one table under the swivel sofa and one under the side arm of the longchair. The dimension sheet also lists a footstool. For the base, you can choose between metal and wood.
What is the surface under the Fourtwo's armrest for?
The swivel sofa's armrest can be lifted up. Underneath is a table surface with room for a book, a glass or the remote control right next to your seat. Unlike the optional table modules, this surface is part of the swivel sofa, according to Brühl.
What can the side arm on the Fourtwo's longchair do?
It can be slid forward and then serves as an extra backrest. If an optional table module is fitted, pulling the side arm forward also reveals a table underneath it.
How is the Fourtwo's seat constructed?
A specialist retailer describes the corner sofa's seat as having a sinuous spring base and a polyurethane foam core, and gives the seat depth as 52 cm. The soft version is softer, while compact is firmer.
How do you operate the Fourtwo's swivel sofa?
You turn the swivel sofa through 90 degrees by hand – there is no motor. Depending on its position, it forms a corner with the longchair or stands parallel next to it. Brühl developed the swivel fittings specifically for convertible models.
What happens if a fitting on the Fourtwo starts to wear?
Brühl has been developing fittings for convertible models for more than three decades. According to Brühl, if a fitting wears over time, it can always be replaced, which restores the function. Your first point of contact is a Brühl specialist retailer.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
