About the model
Brühl Fourtwo – sofa, lounging area and guest bed
Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the Fourtwo as a two-part system: a longchair and a swivel sofa. Brühl itself spells the name four-two. Together, the two parts form a compact corner sofa with room for four, a lounge landscape or a double bed. The swivel sofa can stand to the right or left of the longchair. Beneath its lift-up armrest there is a table surface. The longchair's side arm can be pulled forward to become an extra backrest.
Fourtwo corner sofa in beige fabric
This Fourtwo is a corner sofa with a beige fabric cover. The longchair forms the corner on the right, seen from the front, with the swivel sofa on the left. The light beige makes the room feel open and suits light floors as well as strong accents. With four seats, the corner sofa suits living rooms and studies. A one-of-a-kind piece for anyone looking for plenty of room to sit and lie down in a small space.
Seating comfort and space
Brühl states a seat height of 43 cm for the Fourtwo, which is within the usual range. According to specialist retailers, you sit on a polyurethane foam core over sinuous springs, and with a seat depth of just over 50 cm, fairly upright. The corner sofa needs around 2.6 m along one wall and 1.85 m along the other. Allow around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of the sofa – as a bed, the depth increases to up to 210 cm.
Functions and additions
Lift the swivel sofa's armrest, and a table surface appears underneath. Slide the side arm on the longchair forward, and it serves as an extra backrest. Brühl's dimension sheet also lists a footstool measuring 77 × 57 cm. Headrests and table modules are available as options, and replacement covers through Brühl specialist retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
The Fourtwo's fabric covers are removable and attached to the sofa body with hook-and-loop tape. Once you have undone the hook-and-loop tape, cover the hooks straight away with loop tape so that they do not damage the fabric. Washable covers can go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, and others should be dry-cleaned. The cover should never go in the tumble dryer.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Fourtwo?
Brühl introduced the Fourtwo in 2009, and since 2021 there has also been a softer version called soft. What counts for a pre-owned piece is that Brühl replaces parts: the manufacturer offers replacements for feet, castors, glides and cushion fillings. Brühl replaces worn mechanical fittings, and the covers are removable and replaceable. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Fourtwo become a double bed?
Turn the swivel sofa until it is parallel to the longchair. In a few easy steps, this creates a double bed of 150 × 210 cm. An optional table under the swivel sofa is revealed in the process and serves as a bedside surface.
How do you operate the Fourtwo's swivel sofa?
You turn the swivel sofa through 90 degrees by hand – there is no motor. Depending on its position, it forms a corner with the longchair or stands parallel next to it. Brühl developed the swivel fittings specifically for convertible models.
What is the difference between Fourtwo soft and Fourtwo compact?
The soft version has soft, relaxed upholstery and looks cosy. The compact version feels pleasantly firmer and, with its smooth surfaces, has a clean-cut look that shows off patterned covers well. Each version has its own matching set of cushions.
What happens if a fitting on the Fourtwo starts to wear?
Brühl has been developing fittings for convertible models for more than three decades. According to Brühl, if a fitting wears over time, it can always be replaced, which restores the function. Your first point of contact is a Brühl specialist retailer.
What is the Fourtwo footstool for?
The Fourtwo dimension sheet shows a footstool with a footprint of 77 × 57 cm. It is 43 cm high, the same height as the seat. In front of the swivel sofa, it serves as a footrest or an extra seat.
How is the Fourtwo's seat constructed?
A specialist retailer describes the corner sofa's seat as having a sinuous spring base and a polyurethane foam core, and gives the seat depth as 52 cm. The soft version is softer, while compact is firmer.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
