About the model
Brühl Fourtwo – corner solution with swivel sofa
With the Fourtwo, Brühl puts transformation centre stage. Roland Meyer-Brühl's design combines a longchair with a swivel sofa and offers many possibilities in a limited space: corner sofa, lounging area or double bed. The swivel sofa can be placed either to the right or to the left of the longchair. Switching between them takes just a few easy steps. Brühl develops its own fittings for functions like these. At the final inspection in the workshop, the conversion functions are checked before a piece leaves the premises.
Fourtwo corner sofa in red leather
This Fourtwo is a corner sofa with a red leather cover. The longchair forms the corner on the left, seen from the front, with the swivel sofa joining it on the right. Red leather makes a strong statement and develops its own patina over time. With four seats, the corner sofa suits families and open-plan living spaces. The colour stands out well against a light wall or alongside grey and wood.
Seating comfort and space
According to specialist retailers, the seat rests on a sinuous spring base topped with a polyurethane foam core. The seat depth is just over 50 cm, which gives an upright sitting position. At 43 cm, the seat height is within the usual range. The corner sofa needs around 2.6 m along one wall and 1.85 m along the other. According to the dimension sheet, the depth grows to up to 210 cm depending on the position, for example when used as a bed.
Functions and additions
For the Fourtwo, Brühl offers headrests and table modules that come in handy when it is used as a bed. One table sits under the swivel sofa, and a second sits under the longchair's side arm and can be pulled forward. The base is available in metal or wood. If a mechanical fitting wears over the years, Brühl replaces it.
Caring for the leather cover
Remove dust with a soft, dry cloth. Dab stains with a slightly damp cloth without rubbing. Once or twice a year, treat the leather with a suitable care product. Strong colours such as red fade in bright sunlight, so choose a shady spot. The Fourtwo's covers are removable and replaceable in leather too.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Fourtwo?
The Fourtwo comes from Brühl's workshop in Bad Steben, where the family business has been making upholstered furniture since 1948. There, each cover is sewn entirely by one person, and every conversion function is checked before leaving the workshop. Brühl offers replacement covers in a new colour or a different material. The upholstery can be replaced as well, while the frame stays. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Fourtwo become a double bed?
Turn the swivel sofa until it is parallel to the longchair. In a few easy steps, this creates a double bed of 150 × 210 cm. An optional table under the swivel sofa is revealed in the process and serves as a bedside surface.
What can the side arm on the Fourtwo's longchair do?
It can be slid forward and then serves as an extra backrest. If an optional table module is fitted, pulling the side arm forward also reveals a table underneath it.
Can a leather Fourtwo be re-covered in fabric later on?
Yes, the Fourtwo's covers are removable in both leather and fabric. According to Brühl, models with removable covers can always be switched from leather to fabric or vice versa. You can order the replacement cover through Brühl specialist retailers.
What is the surface under the Fourtwo's armrest for?
The swivel sofa's armrest can be lifted up. Underneath is a table surface with room for a book, a glass or the remote control right next to your seat. Unlike the optional table modules, this surface is part of the swivel sofa, according to Brühl.
How is the Fourtwo's seat constructed?
A specialist retailer describes the corner sofa's seat as having a sinuous spring base and a polyurethane foam core, and gives the seat depth as 52 cm. The soft version is softer, while compact is firmer.
What is the difference between Fourtwo soft and Fourtwo compact?
The soft version has soft, relaxed upholstery and looks cosy. The compact version feels pleasantly firmer and, with its smooth surfaces, has a clean-cut look that shows off patterned covers well. Each version has its own matching set of cushions.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
