Brühl Fourtwo – longchair plus swivel sofa

The Fourtwo was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl, and according to Stylepark the compact version dates from 2009. In 2021, Brühl introduced the soft version. Both consist of a longchair and a swivel sofa and combine a sofa, lounging area and guest bed in a limited space. The compact version feels pleasantly firmer and, with its smooth surfaces, has a clean-cut look. The soft version has soft, relaxed upholstery. Each version has its own matching set of cushions, and the base is available in metal or wood.

Fourtwo corner sofa in grey and beige fabric – floor model

This Fourtwo is a corner sofa with a grey and beige fabric cover. The longchair forms the corner on the right, seen from the front, with the swivel sofa on the left. This piece was on display in a showroom and has never been used in a home. The mix of grey and beige looks warm and calm and goes well with light wooden floors. The corner sofa seats three and suits living rooms where sitting and lying down matter equally.

Seating comfort and space

How soft the seat feels depends on the version: Brühl makes the soft version soft and relaxed and the compact version pleasantly firmer. Underneath, according to specialist retailers, there is a polyurethane foam core on sinuous springs. With a seat height of 44 cm and a seat depth of just over 50 cm, you sit upright and comfortably. The corner sofa needs around 2.6 m along one wall and 1.85 m along the other. As a bed, the depth increases to up to 210 cm according to the dimension sheet.

Functions and additions

Lift the swivel sofa's armrest, and a table surface appears underneath. Slide the side arm on the longchair forward, and it serves as an extra backrest. Brühl's dimension sheet also lists a footstool measuring 77 × 57 cm. Headrests and table modules are available as options, and replacement covers through Brühl specialist retailers.

Caring for the fabric cover

Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle, including the gaps between the longchair and the swivel sofa. Dab stains with a damp, lint-free cloth rather than rubbing. Direct sunlight and nearby radiators make colours fade. For a thorough clean, take the cover off – according to the manufacturer, many Brühl fabrics can be washed or professionally cleaned.

Why a Brühl Fourtwo floor model?

Brühl has been manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948, with much of the work done by hand and more than 30 years of experience with conversion fittings. As a floor model, this Fourtwo was only ever on display and never used in a home. In the workshop, each cover is sewn entirely by one person. If a fitting wears later on, Brühl replaces it. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
