About the model
Brühl Alba – corner sofa from the modular programme
Alba by Roland Meyer-Brühl is a modular programme that Brühl has been making for around thirty years. Many elements and options combine to create the right sofa. You can choose between soft and firmer seating comfort, with an integrated spring core if desired, as well as different seat heights and depths. There are seven options for the side sections and several variants for the base. Brühl offers three versions: 55/70 – all in one with infinitely adjustable seat depth, system/m with integrated headrest brackets and system/o without brackets.
Alba corner sofa in grey fabric
This Alba is a corner sofa with a grey fabric cover. The corner is on the right, seen from the front. Grey forms a calm base for cushions, rugs and wood in stronger tones. With four seats, the corner sofa offers room for the family or for guests. It suits living rooms where several people sit together in the evening. The Alba's fabric covers are removable, which makes cleaning easier.
Seating comfort and space
Whether you sit softly or more firmly on the Alba depends on the upholstery: Brühl makes it relaxed and soft, firmer, or smooth with an integrated spring core. With a seat height of 45 cm, this piece sits at the upper end of the usual range. The corner sofa needs around 2.7 m along one wall and 1.83 m along the other. Allow around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it.
Elements and additions
Alba corner sofas can be made up, for example, of a longchair with a sliding side arm and an add-on sofa. Folding armrests open up a corner configuration towards the room, if the version has them. For the corner with an extra-wide longchair and four headrest brackets, Brühl offers two additional head cushions. You can order replacement covers in fabric or leather through specialist retailers, and for multi-part covers also individual parts.
Caring for the fabric cover
The fabric cover is removable and attached to the sofa body with hook-and-loop tape. Undo the hook-and-loop tape all the way round at the bottom and cover the hooks straight away with loop tape so that they do not damage the fabric. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner. Washable covers can go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, and the others should be dry-cleaned.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Alba?
Brühl is a family business and has been making seating in its own workshop in Bad Steben since 1948. A high proportion of the work is done by hand, and each cover is sewn entirely by one person. Brühl attributes the Alba's longevity to its timeless design, high-quality materials and skilled craftsmanship. That is why a pre-owned Alba also fits into a new interior. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the seat depth adjustment on the Alba 55/70 work?
In the 55/70 – all in one version, you pull the seats forward by up to 15 cm. The seat depth increases continuously from 55 to 70 cm. So you can sit upright or lean further back, just as you like.
What are the headrest brackets on the Alba for?
You slot cushions onto the brackets, and these then act as head cushions. On system/m and 55/70, the brackets are integrated into the backrest and fold up. For system/o, there are plug-in headrests with adjustable tilt instead.
What is it like to sit on the Alba?
That depends on the version. Brühl makes the Alba with relaxed, soft upholstery, with firmer seating comfort or with smooth upholstery and an integrated spring core. The seat depth is 55 or 63 cm, and on the 55/70 it can be extended continuously up to 70 cm.
Which bases are available for the Alba?
The options are floating feet that can be adjusted in height, as well as angled feet, runners and height-adjustable wooden feet. The base determines how light the sofa looks. Brühl replaces individual feet and glides when needed.
Can a fabric Alba be re-covered in leather later on?
Yes, according to the manufacturer, Brühl models with removable covers can be switched from fabric to leather or vice versa. Individual parts of a multi-part cover can also be replaced as long as the material is available. Replacement covers are arranged through Brühl specialist retailers.
What can the Alba's folding armrests do?
When lowered, they turn a sofa into a daybed, and on corner sofas they open up the arrangement towards the centre of the room. Brühl offers seven side sections, two of which fold down. Do not sit on the armrests when they are folded down, as the mechanism may suffer.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
