About the model
Brühl Alba – corner sofa with sleep function
Brühl has offered the Alba for around thirty years and calls it a timeless classic with surprising possibilities. It was designed by Roland Meyer-Brühl. In the 55/70 – all in one version, the seats can be pulled forward by 15 cm. This increases the seat depth continuously from 55 to 70 cm. Folding headrest brackets hold cushions that serve as head cushions. Folding armrests quickly turn an Alba into a daybed or open up a corner sofa towards the room.
Alba corner sofa in brown fabric with sleep function
This Alba is a corner sofa upholstered in fabric 3650 in brown. According to the product name, it has a sleep function. The corner is on the left, seen from the front. The warm brown feels cosy and goes well with light walls and natural wood. With four seats, the corner sofa suits families and living rooms where guests occasionally stay the night. The Alba's fabric covers are removable – an advantage for a sofa in everyday use.
Seating comfort and space
How soft the Alba feels is determined by the upholstery chosen: relaxed and soft, firmer, or with an integrated spring core. With a seat height of 45 cm, this piece is at the upper end of the usual range. The corner sofa needs around 2.6 m along one wall and 2.45 m along the other. Plan for around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it.
Functions and additions
Depending on the version, the Alba offers two ways of gaining more space to lie down. Folding armrests are lowered to turn the sofa into a daybed. Where the seat depth is adjustable, you also gain extra depth for lying down. According to Brühl, the lowered armrests are meant for lying on or resting your feet, not for sitting on. For the corner with an extra-wide longchair and four headrest brackets, Brühl offers two additional head cushions.
Caring for the fabric cover
The fabric cover is removable and attached to the sofa body with hook-and-loop tape. Undo the hook-and-loop tape all the way round at the bottom and cover the hooks straight away with loop tape so that they do not damage the fabric. Then pull the cover off upwards, starting from one corner. Washable covers can go on a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, and the others should be dry-cleaned.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Alba?
Brühl, a family business, has been making seating in its workshop in Bad Steben since 1948. There, each cover is sewn entirely by one person. The Alba's fabric covers are removable, and Brühl offers replacement covers in a new colour or a different material through specialist retailers. This means a pre-owned Alba can also be given a fresh look. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Which versions of the Alba are there?
There are three versions. The 55/70 version has infinitely adjustable seat depth and folding headrest brackets, while system/m has integrated brackets and a choice of 55 or 63 cm seat depth. The system/o version comes without brackets, with optional plug-in headrests that tilt.
What are the headrest brackets on the Alba for?
You slot cushions onto the brackets, and these then act as head cushions. On system/m and 55/70, the brackets are integrated into the backrest and fold up. For system/o, there are plug-in headrests with adjustable tilt instead.
How is an Alba corner sofa put together?
Compact corner sofas combine a longchair, whose side arm can be slid along, with an add-on sofa. But Brühl also plans large, individually configured arrangements. For particularly wide corner sofas, there is an extra-wide longchair with four headrest brackets.
What is it like to sit on the Alba?
That depends on the version. Brühl makes the Alba with relaxed, soft upholstery, with firmer seating comfort or with smooth upholstery and an integrated spring core. The seat depth is 55 or 63 cm, and on the 55/70 it can be extended continuously up to 70 cm.
Which bases are available for the Alba?
The options are floating feet that can be adjusted in height, as well as angled feet, runners and height-adjustable wooden feet. The base determines how light the sofa looks. Brühl replaces individual feet and glides when needed.
Can you reorder covers for the Alba?
Replacement covers for the Alba are available through Brühl specialist retailers, ideally with the quality passport and order number. With multi-part covers, individual parts can also be replaced as long as the fabric or leather is still available.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
