About the model
Brühl Alba – compact two-seater with options
With the Alba, you can plan seating from a compact two-seater to a generous corner configuration. Roland Meyer-Brühl designed the programme, and Brühl has been making it for around thirty years. For the upholstery, you can choose between soft and firm. For the base, there are floating height-adjustable feet, delicate angled feet, sweeping runners or height-adjustable wooden feet. Slim armrests make the sofa look lighter, while fully upholstered side posts give it a homely feel. A single continuous seat cushion is also an option.
Alba two-seater in blue fabric
This Alba is a two-seater with a blue fabric cover. The colour adds a calm accent without dominating the room. Thanks to its compact width, the two-seater also fits into smaller flats, a reading room or a study. Opposite a larger sofa, it turns a seating group into a cosy circle. The Alba's fabric covers are removable, which makes care easier. A one-of-a-kind piece for two people.
Seating comfort and space
How firm the seat is depends on the upholstery, which Brühl makes soft, firmer or with a spring core. The seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. The two-seater needs only around 1.7 m of wall space and extends 95 cm into the room. This means it also fits under a window or into an alcove. Allow around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of the sofa.
Elements and additions
The programme includes two- to four-seaters and corner solutions made up of a longchair and an add-on sofa. Depending on the version, there are folding armrests, headrest brackets or plug-in headrests. Brühl offers replacement covers in fabric or leather through specialist retailers, and models with removable covers can switch material. Brühl also supplies spare parts such as feet or glides.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle and dab stains with a damp cloth rather than rubbing. Keep the sofa away from direct sunlight and radiators. For a thorough clean, take the cover off – it is attached with hook-and-loop tape. Washable Brühl fabrics can take a gentle cycle at up to 30 °C, and the others should be dry-cleaned.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Alba?
Brühl has been manufacturing in Bad Steben since 1948 and checks every piece at final inspection before it leaves the workshop. On every Brühl seating model, the upholstery can be replaced while the frame continues to be used. Sometimes a new fleece wrap is all it takes to make the padding fuller. This keeps a pre-owned Alba comfortable for a long time. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the seat depth adjustment on the Alba 55/70 work?
In the 55/70 – all in one version, you pull the seats forward by up to 15 cm. The seat depth increases continuously from 55 to 70 cm. So you can sit upright or lean further back, just as you like.
Are the Alba's covers removable?
Yes, the Alba's fabric covers can be removed. They are held in place by hook-and-loop strips, which you can feel along the bottom edge of the sofa. A fixed cover, by contrast, would be stapled.
What is it like to sit on the Alba?
That depends on the version. Brühl makes the Alba with relaxed, soft upholstery, with firmer seating comfort or with smooth upholstery and an integrated spring core. The seat depth is 55 or 63 cm, and on the 55/70 it can be extended continuously up to 70 cm.
What can the Alba's folding armrests do?
When lowered, they turn a sofa into a daybed, and on corner sofas they open up the arrangement towards the centre of the room. Brühl offers seven side sections, two of which fold down. Do not sit on the armrests when they are folded down, as the mechanism may suffer.
Which versions of the Alba are there?
There are three versions. The 55/70 version has infinitely adjustable seat depth and folding headrest brackets, while system/m has integrated brackets and a choice of 55 or 63 cm seat depth. The system/o version comes without brackets, with optional plug-in headrests that tilt.
What are the headrest brackets on the Alba for?
You slot cushions onto the brackets, and these then act as head cushions. On system/m and 55/70, the brackets are integrated into the backrest and fold up. For system/o, there are plug-in headrests with adjustable tilt instead.
Can I see the piece before buying?

The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
