About the model
Brühl Randolph – a pair of compact armchairs
The Randolph was designed for Brühl by Roland Meyer-Brühl. Fine seams, compact dimensions and a purist shape draw attention to the colour and material of the cover. Brühl envisages the armchair in living areas, home offices and commercial interiors, and it combines easily with other furniture. The current version is called randolph spring. Its seat has integrated pocket springs, the feet are height-adjustable, and the fabric or leather covers are removable and replaceable.
Randolph pair of armchairs in grey leather
This listing includes two Randolph armchairs with grey leather covers and chrome feet. The two armchairs form a pair: facing a sofa, side by side at a window or around a small table. Thanks to their compact dimensions, they fit into smaller living rooms, a home office or a reception area. The grey can be combined with wood, stone and strong colours. Two matching armchairs bring calm and symmetry to a seating corner.
Seating comfort and space
The Randolph is a compact armchair for sitting upright, for example to read or chat. At 43 cm, the seat height is within the usual range. Each armchair needs a floor area of 60 × 68 cm and is 70 cm high. The low backrest keeps the room open. Plan for around 60 cm of space to move in front of the armchairs.
Elements and additions
Besides the armchair, Brühl's dimension sheet for the Randolph lists a two-seater 140 cm wide and a low table measuring 72 × 72 cm. Together, they make up a small seating group. On its website, Brühl now shows the armchair as randolph spring. You can order replacement covers through Brühl specialist retailers – for models that have left the collection, usually for around ten more years.
Caring for the leather cover
Wipe off dust with a soft, dry cloth and dab stains with a slightly damp cloth without rubbing. Once or twice a year, treat the leather with a suitable care product to keep it supple. Direct sunlight and nearby radiators dry leather out. Clean the chrome feet with a damp cloth and then rub them dry.
Why buy a pre-owned Brühl Randolph?
Brühl has been making seating in its workshop in Bad Steben since 1948, with a high proportion of the work done by hand. Brühl describes the Randolph as timeless and durable. On every Brühl seating model, the upholstery can be replaced, and the workshop re-covers seating on request, including pieces with fixed upholstery. Brühl also offers replacements for feet and glides. Both armchairs have been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the Randolph fit in?
According to Brühl, the Randolph is subtle and universally adaptable. It suits the living room as well as home offices and commercial interiors, and blends in with furniture in many styles.
Which pieces belong to the Randolph series?
Besides the armchair, the older dimension sheet shows a two-seater and a low, square table, which together form a matching seating group. Brühl currently presents the armchair in the randolph spring version.
What does the Randolph spring offer?
Today's version is called randolph spring. Its seat is built with pocket springs, and the feet are height-adjustable. Fabric and leather covers can be removed and replaced.
Can the Randolph be re-covered?
In most cases, yes. Replacement covers are arranged through Brühl specialist retailers, and the workshop in Bad Steben re-covers even models with fixed upholstery. With removable covers, switching from leather to fabric is also possible.
How can you tell whether the Randolph's cover is removable?
Run your hand along the bottom edge of the armchair. A removable Brühl cover is attached to the body with hook-and-loop strips, whereas a fixed cover is attached with staples.
Which table goes with the Randolph?
The Randolph dimension sheet shows a low, square table with sides of 72 cm and a height of 31 cm. As a coffee or side table, it goes with the armchairs and the two-seater in the series.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
The family firm Brühl has made upholstered furniture in Bad Steben, Upper Franconia, since 1948. Many of its sofas adjust or transform, and numerous designs are by Roland Meyer-Brühl: on the Roro (since 1998) the arms and back adjust continuously, while on the Moule (since 2003) two swivel seats convert into loungers or a sleeping surface in a few movements. Frames are made from solid beech, and each complete cover is sewn by one person. Kati Meyer-Brühl has been creative director since 2008.
