About the model
Koinor Hiero – sofa with adjustable backrests
Hiero is a sofa range from Koinor built around adjustable comfort. The backrests can be tilted in several stages using a ratchet fitting. On high-back elements, the headrest can also be adjusted. The cushions are chamber-quilted with a loose filling of foam sticks, feathers or a mix of both; Koinor offers them in relaxed, extra relaxed or extra soft. All elements are also covered on the back in the upholstery material. Hiero is made in Germany.
Hiero three-seater in grey fabric
This Hiero is a three-seater upholstered in grey fabric. At 236 cm wide, it corresponds to the range’s 3-seater with a standard-height back. Three people can sit side by side here, and you adjust the backrests to suit your posture. Grey is a calm colour that goes with wood, light walls and coloured cushions. The sofa suits a living room where people read, talk and watch television.
Seating comfort and space
Hiero is soft to sit on: the chambers with their loose filling give way, and the softer the upholstery, the deeper you sink in. Depending on the backrest position, the seat depth ranges from just under 60 to just under 70 cm, while the seat height of 43 cm is within the usual range. The sofa needs around 2.4 m along the wall and is just under 0.9 m deep when upright. Allow a little clearance at the back for the tilted backrest. Leave 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it.
Functions and additions
The backrests lock into several stages via a ratchet fitting and, according to specialist retailers, can be tilted separately. This increases the seat depth by up to about 11 cm and the overall depth by up to about 23 cm. As an option, Koinor offers a motorised footrest with sensor buttons on the armrest. The series includes 2-, 2.5- and 3-seaters, loungers, corners, a footstool bench and a jumbo footstool; these can be added through specialist retailers.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle, including along the seams of the chamber quilting. Plump up the cushions now and then so that the loose filling stays evenly distributed. Dab fresh stains with a damp, light-coloured cloth rather than rubbing them. Direct sunlight and nearby radiators cause fabric to fade. For a deep clean, a professional upholstery cleaner is the right choice.
Why buy a pre-owned Koinor Hiero?
Koinor is based in Michelau in Upper Franconia and makes upholstered furniture ‘Made in Germany’, combining craftsmanship with modern design. Hiero shows this with adjustable backrests, chamber-quilted cushions and a back that is covered on the reverse too; the sofa can therefore be placed freestanding in the room. As Koinor still makes the series, footstools and elements can be added later. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How do you adjust the backrest of the Hiero?

What are the cushions of the Hiero filled with?
The cushions are chamber-quilted, and the chambers hold a loose filling of foam sticks, feathers or both. It gives softly and adapts to you. Plump up the cushions from time to time so that the filling stays evenly distributed.
Is there an electric footrest for the Hiero?

Which elements belong to the Hiero series?
Koinor makes 2-, 2.5- and 3-seaters, each with a standard or high back. There are also end elements with one armrest, loungers, add-on corners, a footstool bench and a jumbo footstool. These can be combined into straight sofas, corner arrangements and larger seating groups.
Can the Hiero be placed freestanding in the room?
Yes. Koinor also covers the back of every element in the upholstery material, so the sofa looks finished from all sides. Just bear in mind that the backrest needs a little space behind it when tilted.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Koinor was founded in 1953 by Horst Müller in Michelau, Upper Franconia; the name was inspired by the Koh-i-noor diamond. It has made leather furniture since 1974 and adjustable furniture since 2004. Production is at three plants in northern Bavaria, and each piece is made to order. On the Phoenix the seats rotate depending on the configuration and the armrests adjust individually; on the Hiero the backrest tilt is set by hand, with the mechanism hidden in the upholstery.
