About the model
HAY Mags Soft – soft modular sofa with feather topper
The Mags Soft is the softer version of HAY’s modular Mags sofa. Rounded edges and soft cushions give it a flowing shape. Beneath the cover is a plywood frame with Nosag zigzag springs. The seat consists of 11 cm thick foam, the back and armrests of foam with an additional comfort layer. Each module is topped with a layer around 6 cm thick, filled in equal parts with duck and goose feathers and foam sticks. The visible seams are a signature feature.

This Mags Soft is a corner sofa made of two modules and covered in grey fabric. The corner is on the right, seen from the front; this is where you stretch out your legs. Two people can sit deep and comfortably here, making it a good fit for a living room or a reading corner where you would rather lie stretched out than sit upright. Grey is easy to combine with wood, linen and coloured cushions, and the visible seams trace the soft shapes.
Seating comfort and space
Beneath the soft feather topper, foam and Nosag springs give the seat support: the surface is yielding, the core firm. With a seat height of 40 cm, you sit a little lower than on many sofas, which measure 42 to 45 cm. The deep seat invites you to lean back and stretch out. The sofa needs around 2.2 m along the wall and 1.4 m of depth at the corner. Leave 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it.
Elements and additions
Mags Soft is modular in design. HAY offers seat modules in various widths, corner modules, chaise longues and footstools, up to 18 different elements in total. The modules are joined with fittings, so a corner sofa can later be extended or rearranged. A footstool fits in front of the sofa as an extra seat or, with a tray, as a coffee table. HAY still makes the series, including the Mags Soft Low with lower armrests.
Caring for the fabric cover
On the standard Mags Soft, the cover is fixed to the upholstery and cannot be removed. HAY recommends vacuuming the sofa regularly with the upholstery nozzle so that dust does not settle in and the fabric sheds less fluff. Most stains can be removed with lukewarm water and a clean, lint-free cloth, ideally straight away. Bleach, ammonia and concentrated cleaners have no place on the fabric.

The Mags Soft is a modular sofa: a pre-owned corner sofa can be extended with further modules or arranged differently when your space changes. What is it like to sit on the Mags Soft?
Deep and relaxed. A topper of feathers and foam sticks makes the surface soft, while foam and Nosag springs beneath it provide support. Thanks to the low frame and deep seat, you sit more as you would in a lounge than upright at a table.
What is a footstool used for with the Mags Soft?
Push the footstool up to the sofa when you need more room to sit or lie down. Placed on its own, it is an extra seat for guests. With a tray on top, you can use it as a low coffee table.
Which modules are available for the Mags Soft?
HAY offers seat modules in various widths, corner modules, chaise longues and footstools, up to 18 different elements in total. From these you can build two-seaters, corner sofas or large seating landscapes that can be rearranged or extended later.
Can the cover of the Mags Soft be removed?
Not on the standard Mags Soft, where the fabric is fixed to the upholstery. Since 2026, HAY has also offered the Mags Soft Low with a removable cover that is attached with hook-and-loop fasteners and is easier to change.
Why does the Mags Soft have visible seams?
On the Mags Soft, the visible seams are part of the design and trace its rounded shapes. HAY offers the thread in several colours, such as black, white, light and dark grey or beige. This allows it to stand out against the fabric or blend in with it.
How does the topper of the Mags Soft keep its shape?
Gently plump up the seat and cushions from time to time. This airs the feathers and moves them back into place, as HAY recommends. Do not sit on the back or armrests, so that the upholstery keeps its shape.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Cologne. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
