About the model

HAY Mags Soft – lounge comfort in a modular system

HAY conceived the Mags as a modular sofa with few details and plenty of seating comfort. The Mags Soft adds rounded edges and softer upholstery. The frame is low and the seat deep: HAY specifies a seat depth of 74.5 cm for the seat modules. This makes for a relaxed lounge posture. The upholstery is supported by a plywood frame with Nosag springing, topped by foam and a layer of feathers and foam sticks. The feet are made of black-stained beech.

This corner sofa from the Mags Soft series is covered in grey fabric and consists of two modules. Seen from the front, the corner is on the right. Thanks to its compact width, it also fits into smaller living rooms or a study, giving two people room to sit and stretch out. The calm grey stays in the background and lets the rounded edges and visible seams take centre stage.

Seating comfort and space

The Mags Soft feels soft on the surface and stable at the core: the feather topper gives, while foam and springs carry you underneath. At 40 cm, the seat is slightly below the usual 42 to 45 cm, which underlines the lounge posture. The sofa needs around 1.9 m of wall space and is 1.4 m deep at the corner. Allow 60 to 80 cm for the walkway in front of the sofa.

Elements and additions

The Mags Soft has no functions such as a reclining or sleep mechanism; its strength lies in its modular system. The series includes narrow and wide seat modules, corners, chaise longues and footstools. As HAY still offers the range, modules can be added through specialist retailers. When needed, push a footstool from the series up to the sofa to extend the seat. Since 2026, the Mags Soft Low has also been available with a removable cover.

Caring for the fabric cover

The cover is fixed to the upholstery and is cared for on the sofa. HAY recommends gently plumping up the seat and topper from time to time. This airs the feathers and moves them back into place. Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle. Blot fresh stains with lukewarm water and a lint-free cloth. Direct sunlight and strong heat cause fabrics to fade.

Why buy a pre-owned HAY Mags Soft?

The Danish brand HAY was founded by Mette and Rolf Hay in 2002. The construction speaks for a pre-owned Mags Soft: a plywood frame with Nosag springs and durable, high-density foam. The modules can be joined and separated again. As HAY still makes the series, it can be added to later. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.

How does the Mags Soft differ from the classic Mags?

The Mags Soft has rounded edges and softer cushions. A topper of feathers and foam sticks makes it more yielding, and the covers show visible seams. The classic Mags, by contrast, looks more angular and taut.

How is the Mags Soft constructed?

The frame is made of plywood with Nosag zigzag springs. The seat has 11 cm thick foam, while the back and armrests have foam with an additional comfort layer. Each module is topped with a layer about 6 cm thick of duck and goose feathers and foam sticks. The feet are made of black-stained beech.

What is the Mags Soft Low?

A version of the Mags Soft with armrests that are lower than the back. This makes the sofa look more open. Since 2026, HAY has also offered the Mags Soft Low with a removable cover attached with hook-and-loop fastening.

Can the Mags Soft be reconfigured later?

Yes. The modules are joined by screwed fittings and can be separated again. This lets you arrange a corner sofa differently or add further modules. When moving the sofa, lift it rather than dragging it, so that the feet and joints are not strained.

How do you care for the fabric cover of the Mags Soft?

Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle; this helps prevent fluff and pilling. Remove stains promptly with lukewarm water and a clean, lint-free cloth. Do not use bleach, ammonia or concentrated cleaners.

What is it like to sit on the Mags Soft?

Deep and relaxed. A topper of feathers and foam sticks makes the surface soft, while foam and Nosag springs beneath it provide support. Thanks to the low frame and deep seat, you sit more as you would in a lounge than upright at a table.
