DEDON Rilly Cocoon Chair – an outdoor armchair with a woven canopy

The studio GamFratesi designed the Rilly collection for DEDON. Instead of a classic weave, parallel vertical strands of marine rope or DEDON Fiber “Touch” run across the frame. This creates an open, almost transparent look with faceted shapes. On the Cocoon Chair, a frame of electrostatically powder-coated aluminium supports the seat, back and a woven canopy overhead. The armchair received the “Best of BDNY Outdoor” award.

Rilly Cocoon Chair in brown fabric – floor model

This Rilly Cocoon Chair comes in brown, and its cushions are covered in fabric. It was on display and has never been used in a home. With the canopy overhead, the armchair becomes a retreat on a terrace, balcony or in the garden. It can stand on its own or be part of a seating group from the Rilly collection, for example together with a matching footstool. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

With a seat height of 44 cm, you sit as you would in a standard armchair. The cushions make the seat comfortable, while the canopy frames the head area and provides shelter from above. The armchair needs a floor space of 91 by 94 cm and is 1.6 m high. So check the clearance under an awning or roof overhang. As a rule of thumb, leave around 60 cm clear in front of it, and correspondingly more with a footstool.

Elements and additions

The Rilly collection is designed for dining, lounging and the poolside. Alongside the Cocoon Chair, it includes lounge chairs and armchairs, footstools, two- and three-seaters and daybeds, including a large double daybed with a canopy. With a footstool from the collection, the Cocoon Chair becomes a place to put your feet up. The DEDON Fiber strands come in several colours, including Taupe, Teal, Rosewood and Saffron.

Caring for the frame, strands and cushions

DEDON gives separate instructions for each material. Wash rope with warm water and mild soap; regular vacuuming or brushing stops dirt from building up. Clean DEDON Fiber with a soft cloth or soft brush and warm water, without alcohol or solvents. For the powder-coated frame, a soft cloth with warm water is enough. According to DEDON, all cushion covers are washable; the label is what counts.

Why a DEDON Rilly Cocoon Chair floor model?

DEDON was founded in 1990 by Bobby Dekeyser, is based in Lüneburg and has been manufacturing in its own workshops on Cebu in the Philippines since 2000. The furniture is made by hand, and the company describes DEDON Fiber as weatherproof and colourfast. As a floor model, this armchair has never been used in a home. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
